Kaye Torres, daughter of slain actress Nida Blanca, finally broke her silence about the death of Rod Strunk, who was pinpointed as the mastermind of Nida's brutal murder.
In her statement aired on several GMA-7 news programs yesterday, July 17, Kaye said she was shocked when she heard the news about Strunk's death. But she also feared that with Strunk's death, the search for the truth about her mother's tragic death would be more difficult.
"The reported death of Rod Strunk has taken me by surprise. It's very tragic that Rod's life had to end this way. Whatever his faults and shortcomings may have been, I have never wished this kind of misfortune or tragedy on him.
"As my mother's murder case continues, one vital key to the solution of the case is gone. Rod's death only makes it more impossible for those answers to be obtained," said Kaye.
However, Kaye appealed to authorities that the murder case of her mother should continue despite Rod's alleged suicide. She said they should go on investigating other suspects involved in the case.
"I feel that the case should not end with the death of Rod Strunk, especially since his innocence or guilt has never been [proven]. Rod may have avoided extradition here, but now he will have to face a much higher court.
"The authorities should confirm the veracity of Rod Strunk's death. As for my mother's murder, since this is a heinous crime, the case will proceed. The authorities should continue the pursuit, investigation, and arrest of those suspects still at large."
