Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) superstar James Yap reportedly failed to make the final cut in the RP team lineup that is hoping to compete in the Beijing Olympics.
And no one was more saddened by the news than his wife, Kris Aquino, who as we all know encouraged her husband to accept the invitation to try it out for the national squad.
In an article published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer (July 29), veteran sports columnist Beth Celis wrote that Kris expressed sadness when the news was relayed to her while shooting a Pampers commercial with the couple's infant son, Baby James.
James, according to Kris, took the entire decision "like a man" and assured her that he's totally fine. In fact, it was James who consoled Kris when she learned the news.
"But I'd be lying if I tell you (that) I'm happy. Of course I'm disappointed because I was the one who really encouraged James to accept the invitation, although we were both aware right from the start that there were no guarantees he'd be taken in," Kris revealed to Celis.
Former president Cory Aquino was also saddened by the news. She was excited with the thought of seeing her son-in-law wear the national colors to represent the country in an international competition.
"My mom got sad when she heard the news because it meant a lot to her for James to be part of the team that would represent our country. She even called him before his flight to wish him good luck," said Kris.
