The Cheska Garcia and Doug Kramer love story began when they first met at Boracay way back in 2003. What started out as friendship blossomed into something more special three months after they first met.
Now, after four years of being sweethearts, Doug officially proposed marriage to Cheska seven days before their fourth anniversary last October 2. They plan to marry on October 9 next year.
Entertainment Live got the opportunity to interview Doug and Cheska yesterday, October 13, about this meaningful proposal and their plans for the future.
First off was the reaction of Cheska's dad. Did he take it well?
"Okay naman siya," Cheska said reassuringly. "I told naman may Dad na that [Doug] will be the guy that I'm gonna be marrying." Then in jest, Cheska added, "I was just waiting for him to propose, buti naman nagkatotoo!"
A lot of people are curious about how Doug pulled off this surprise proposal as Cheska had a knack of knowing every planned surprise.
"Yeah, operation talaga siya, sobra!" Doug said. "It all happened two and a half weeks before I left for China. I knew it was gonna be hard for me to keep a surprise from her since she asks everyone: she'll ask my friends, my friend's girlfriends... So, I had to contact each and every one of them to tell them that I'm gonna be back at this date and not at this date, ganyan, kasi huhulihin talaga niya mga girlfriends ng mga teammates ko, e.
"So I finally set it up by telling that I was gonna be back by Wednesday [October 3], but I actually had the flight nung Tuesday [October 2]. Aside from that, I already had the seats reserved at the Le Souffle restaurant in The Fort. I bought the ring na about two weeks before that also. Everything was prepared na talaga before I left. The reason pala why I wanted to propose to her by October 2 is because she already had ideas that sometime in October, e, magpo-propose na ako," narrated the professional basketball player.
Was he nervous when the time came that all he had to do was show up and propose?
"Actually, oo," replied Doug. "Nasa C.R. na ako noong nandoon na siya sa Le Souffle. Sa kaba ko, e ni-record ko pa sarili ko sa phone ko."
Now to the wedding, can the couple share a little about their plans like the theme, etc?
"Well, I already know who's gonna do my gown," Cheska said. "It's gonna be Poy. We're just fixing lang the reception, everything."
Rumor has it that Cheska wanted a masquerade-inspired theme. But Doug wouldn't have any of it.
"It will meet halfway naman," Doug quipped.
"Ayaw niya mga plano ko, e," Cheska said. "Sabi pa niya sa akin ‘O, wag mo gawin yung gown mo weird, ha.'"
After the wedding, how many kids would they plan to raise?
"For me, I'm a big kid lover, so I really love to have kids. A maximum of three, at the right time after we get married," said Cheska.
