Rarely do we see Janice de Belen watch fashion shows.
But on May 7, at the SM Kids' Fashion Play event, she came to cheer for her three apos—Alejandro, Adi, and Anya—her son Luigi's kids.
When ABS-CBN reporter MJ Felipe told herabout being a "stage lola," she said, "I’m sorry, I cannot help it. Inaamin ko naman. Sa mga anak ko yata, hindi ako naging stage mom. I cannot help it."
Aside from Luigi, her lovechild with Aga Muhlach, the actress has four children—Ina, Moira, Kaila, and Yuan—by John Estrada.
What was it like watching her apos walk the ramp for the first time?
"Ninerbiyos ako! Nakita mo yung maliit? Muntik nang mag-back out, di ba. Kaya as you saw, with yaya na lang. Oh my god talaga!"
Janice herself mentioned that she was not like that with her kids.
She threw in, "Kasi sa mga apo, payag pang magpa-kiss, payag pang magpa-hug, payag pang sumama sa iyo. Yung mga kids parang, uhm, 'I'm busy. I'm going somewhere.'"
Have the kids shown interest in showbiz?
"Parang the older one…I brought them [to taping] twice. The boy seemed interested.
"The girl. 'No, maybe a director.' Yun nga lang, hindi raw siya marunong gumano'n [snaps fingers]
"I don’t know."
What if they want to enter showbiz at a young age?
"Sana wag habang bata pa. Pero baka mas cute kasi sila habang bata pa. This one [fashion show] is easy because they’re just smiling and walking.
"But drama is another thing. Iba na ang requirements nun.
"We'll see."
Is she the type of lola who spoils her apos?
The star of The General’s Daughter paused before replying, "Ah, wow. Of course, I’m a lola, Yup. I sometimes do. There's a certain amount of spoiling.
"But we have rules. We have rules.
"The way I am with my children is also the way I am with my grandchildren.
"So if everybody say, 'Naku kapag mga apos, spoiled na kaagad.' Hindi rin.
"I also get mad. I scold them. Alam nila iyan. May mga bawal kaya hindi talaga nila gagawin iyan."
