Invited bloggers, media persons, advertising people, and even prominent personalities welcomed the newest addition to the blogging world, SPOT.ph.

SPOT.ph is PEP.ph’s sister website that focuses on helpful reviews for other readers to find "the cool places to eat, chill, dine, and play."

The latest Summit website held its trade launch last Thursday, May 8, at the CAV Wine Bar and Restaurant, Bonifacio High Street in The Fort, Taguig City. SPOT.ph promised bloggers, food lovers, and party people a space in cyberworld where they can share ideas and comments about the food and places they’ve enjoyed.

To welcome the guests, SPOT.ph had a photo wall where a thought bubble made of styrofoam posed the question, “What is your favorite Manila SPOT?” The guests had fun posing beneath the bubble, looking mock-serious, pa-cute or wacky for the camera.

While waiting for the program to start, they browsed and checked out SPOT.ph, posting their reviews about CAV and other restaurants. And they were able to check the hottest news in showbiz in PEP.ph, of course.

PRE-LAUNCH EVENT.Before the program formally started, SPOT.ph presented the audio-visual footage of its recently held bloggers’ food tour at the TriNoma in North Avenue, Quezon City, and Serendra in The Fort, Taguig City.

In the AV presentation, SPOT’s managing editor Cathy Paras-Lara described the event, “It’s really basically a fun event. What we have are food bloggers and general bloggers around Manila.”

Karl Bustamante, SPOT’s community editor, explained why they chose to have a food tour: “The passion of the Filipino people for food, dining out, kasi we all know naman na Filipinos really like to eat.”

The bloggers who attended the event had only good words for the food that they tried and shared their pleasant experiences during the food tour.

A TOAST TO THE NEW BABY. Summit Media Publisher Lisa Gokongwei formally started the program with a short speech about her brainchild and what people can expect from SPOT.ph.

She introduced SPOT.ph by saying, "Today, I am proud to present Spot.ph which is a local site devoted to food—for now—where reviews are made by you and others like you."

She continued, "It comes at the perfect moment when four factors are converging. First, Philippine Internet usage is now at 24 million Filipinos. Second, Manila is fast becoming a haven for food lovers—Spot has now more than 3,500 listings in its database and this number is growing daily.

"Third, there is a need for a current and popular guide to the city. And last, many small businesses like restaurants and bars do not have big advertising bucks to market their establishments. We will show that small budgets can go far with the great targeting functions of Spot."

Ending her speech with high hopes, Lisa said she expects SPOT.ph to be a phenomenon, just like PEP.ph.

"All of you know that PEP, our first project, has become a phenomenon in just a year after its launch. We expect SPOT to be the same; after all, there is one thing that Filipinos love more than showbiz—that is food."

WINE-PAIRING PARTY.SPOT treated its guests with CAV’s wine-pairing feast. As the host Marie Calica, Marie Claire’s Beauty and Fitness Editor, gestured a signal, CAV’s waiters formed a parade of various wines and cocktails.

On the menu, CAV offered Kani & Asian Slaw Salad cups to pair with Beringer Chenin Blanc. Next was Salmon Tartar with pickled Cucumbers & Enoki Tofu shooter with herbal foam and Nottage Hill Chardonay Australia.Third wine for tasting was Kangaroo Ridge, Merlot Australia, paired with CAV’s Potato gnocchi with Truffled Porcini Mushroon Essence. Lastly, Esser Cabernet Sauvignon, USA, paired with Braised Beef Short Ribs Bordelaise on Potato Puree.

Before the guests could get drunk with endless servings of wine, GMA NMI President Judd Gallares thanked the visitors and offered the last toast to cap the event. "Keep on spotting," he said in jest.

Guests not only enjoyed the smooth wine and scrumptious cocktails, they brought home goodies from Cupcakes From Sonja and Chocolate Confections.
