Through the initiative of the husband and wife team of Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez and Councilor Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez, ibinabalik ng siyudad sa Leyte ang orihinal nilang fiesta na "Sangyaw," a Waray word that means "announcement."
This was researched during the time of the Marcoses in the ‘70s and reintroduced noon sa Kasaysayan ng Lahi. It became an annual event from 1974 to 1986, until it was discontinued by the next administration.
Alfred and Cristina worked tirelessly to provide their townmates a weekend affair to remember, including cultural shows, a city parade, nightly concerts and star appearances.
Thursday night, June 26, pa lang ay nagkaroon na ng Search for Miss Tacloban 2008 with the band Sugarfree as special guest stars. Friday night, June 27, ginanap naman ang Search for A Star Season Two with fellow Taclobeña Karla Estrada among the judges, and it was also graced by the presence of Dennis Trillo. Nagkaroon din ng pa-concert ang Brownman Revival.
Sabado ng umaga, June 28, kasabay ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) team sina Donita Rose at Rico J. Puno sa PAL early flight and an hour later naman, sa Cebu Pacific flight sumakay ang dalawang bandang Calla Lily and 6 Cyclemind.
Contingents from Makati led by Mayor Jejomar Binay, Basilan with the representative of Mayor Akbhar attending, and even the city of Marikina headed by MMDA chair Bayani Fernando drove all the way from Manila and Mindanao with busloads of musicians and officers with them.
Nandoon ang original Rose of Tacloban, former First Lady Mrs. Imelda Marcos, na kinantahan ng "Happy Birthday" as she will celebrate her natal day on July 2.
Over at the St. Paul's College, formerly Divine World, may reunion ang class of ‘68 na dinaluhan nina Rico J. and Donita, at sa Astrodome naman ay may pa-concert ang Calla Lily.
Linggo ng hapon, June 29, sarado ang main street ng Tacloban for the parade involving dance troupes from Makati, Cebu, Marikina, Bacolod, and Tacloban. Si Marian ang nag-iisang artista to join the parade, on a float of her own.
Inihatid muna sila sa Hotel Alejandro to freshen up.
More than three hours ang parade with the dancing troupes of the representative cities entertaining each stops sa parade route.
Marian and Popoy promised to support Mart Escudero's movie My Monster Mom na magpi-premiere din Sunday night. Mart is also a talent of Popoy alongside Dennis.
