Bernard Michael “Bimbo” Bautista first met Rosemarie Mora in 1988 in a fashion show where they both walked the runway as models. At that time, Bimbo was a mainstay on the GMA-7 teen variety show That’s Entertainment.
It was easy for the then-16-year-old Bimbo to fall for Rose, who was two years his senior. “Mahilig kasi ako sa beauty na parang bumbayin,” he explains. “Kaya na-attract ako physically sa kanya.”
The attraction was mutual. The couple went steady for two years. But as some young romances go, they soon went their separate ways.
The two met again in 2000 through a mutual friend, who gave Bimbo’s cellphone number to Rose. Bimbo was then a provincial board member in Cavite, and Rose was about to enter culinary school. The two went out on a date. Soon, they found themselves falling for each other all over again.
The renewal of their relationship was sealed with a kiss shared in an elevator en route to a penthouse owned by Rose’s relatives. Bimbo says he can’t remember exactly how he felt: “Basta siyempre, may kilig. Parang biglang naghalikan kami ulit, although wala kaming relationship at all.”
That kiss eventually led to a civil wedding on March 8, 2003. Three years and nine months later, the church wedding followed.
