Entertainment columnist and TV host Ricky Lo was able to interview Sunshine Dizon and her mother Dorothy Laforteza in their newly-blessed rest house in Tanay, Rizal that was aired on Startalk yesterday, August 23. Ricky asked about the happenings in Sunshine's life, her love life, and the controversy surrounding their supposed financial problems that prompted the actress and her mother to sell their old house.
"Hindi, actually yung benta naman noong bahay because my mom wanted me to get my own place na," Sunshine explained.
Sunshine's mom, however, had a more philosophical say on the matter. She said, "Hindi masama maging mahirap ka. Ang masama lang ay kung may ginawa kang hindi maganda."
If there's indeed truth to the rumor about the Dizons' financial problems, then it is obviously a complete opposite to what Ricky Lo found out when he asked, "Mommy, magkano worth nung suot mo ngayon?"
"Secret!" Sunshine exclaimed.
"Pero aaminin ko na sa inyo," Dorothy suddenly said, "totoo itong sasabihin ko, ha. Hindi yabang, ha. Si Sunshine Dizon ang pinaka-young star na makakuha ng hikaw na worth 1.5 million [pesos]."
"'Yan ba ‘yon?" Ricky Lo asked, pointing to Sunshine's earrings.
"Ay, hindi," Dorothy said. "Seven hundred [pesos] lang ‘yan."
THE EX-BOYFRIENDS. Sunshine and Dorothy only laughed about their rumored financial issue, but when the topic changed to Sunshine's love life, Dorothy became serious. Heartbreak, it seemed, was one of the reasons Sunshine became sick recently.
"Tahimik na anak ko, e," a concerned Dorothy said. Then suddenly scolding no one in particular, she shot, "Huwag nang tawag nang tawag, huwag nang text nang text. Huwag kang magmakaawa, ‘tapos anak ko hahabol sa iyo. Ano hahabulin ng anak ko sa iyo?"
Who exactly is Dorothy referring to?
"Hay naku, ayaw ko magbanggit kung sino man! Marami, e." Dorothy then suddenly added, again to the person or persons, another salvo of sermons by saying, "Bakit, mayaman ka ba? Kaya mo ba buhayin anak ko kahit nagpapakita ka na mayaman ka? Ginagastusan mo ba anak ko? Baka naman anak ko pa gumagastos sa iyo?"
Sunshine has a calmer perspective on the matter. She said, "Ang wisdom ng mother ko is makatagpo din ako ng mga kaibigan na ganoon din para sa akin. So, I guess I'm at the point in my life now wherein I hope I'm wiser, di ba?"
As if soothed by Sunshine's words, Dorothy added, "Alam mo, sa totoo lang, ayaw ko makialam dapat kay Sunshine. Kung sino'ng taong dapat sa kanya."
How does Sunshine's mom feel about her daughter's past boyfriends?
"Wala akong nagustuhan kahit isa," Dorothy frankly said. "Nakikisama lang ako dahil ayokong suwayin ang anak ko."
Can she say the same for Victor Neri?
"Kasi sandali lang naman silang nagkasama ni Victor Neri. Kasi si Victor, parang pamangkin ang turing ko," Sunshine's mom said.
How about Frank Garcia?
"Mabait na bata," Dorothy answered. "Kaya lang si Sunshine...ang mentalidad ni Sunshine, iba."
Sunshine laughed and quickly interjected by saying, "Okay, tama na!"
"Si Polo Ravales friend ko ang mama niya. Close kami since Anna Karenina days," Dorothy revealed. "And, Polo is also a good guy. Kaya lang, parang matanda na kahit bata pa ang edad. You know what I mean."
"No comment," Sunshine suddenly said, preventing her mother to say anymore. And both women laughed.
Now that Sunshine's single, is she ready to fall in love again?"Huwag muna," Sunshine answered. "My dad called me up saying na, ‘Anak, baka hindi ka suwerte sa lalake. Puwede huwag ka muna umibig. Mahalin mo muna trabaho mo.'"
