"Minsan binibigyan ako ng mga [aral] ng Diyos. Parang, 'O, 'yan pagdaanan mo 'yang problema na 'yan, may matututunan ka diyan.' You have to recognize kung ano ba yung tinuturo sa akin dito, whether it's a bad situation or not," Diether Ocampo says about his realizations after suffering a minor seizure early this month.

Many observers got worried when Diether Ocampo suffered a minor seizure during the ASAP Concert Tour in the United States early this month. When he came back to the country, however, he explained to the media that there was nothing to worry about, saying that the seizure was just caused by stress from overwork.

In his post-birthday press conference held recently, the actor explained that prior to their U.S. tour, he and co-actor Sam Milby finished several scenes for their primetime soap Only You.

"The doctors just said, 'You know, minsan kailangan i-check natin yung sarili natin, e. Your mindset, parang yung utak mo sinasabi, 'Kaya pa yan.' Siyempre, minsan may mga pangangailangan tayong kailangan suportahan 'yong ibang mga tao. Parang sinasagad natin yung sarili natin sa trabaho, eh, so nakakalimutan nating magpreno, magpahinga."

While taking better care of his body now, Deither revealed that the state of his health prodded him to reflect on what he had already done in his life.

He related, "Looking back after what happened sa kin sa U.S., akala ko 'yon na yung ano ko, e, akala ko patay na ko. Parang biglang naging emotional sa akin yung [pangyayari], traumatic, e. It's almost like this is it.

"Ngayon, looking back, nagpa-flashback sa akin, 'Ano na bang naging contribution ko dito sa mundo na to? I mean, may mga tao ba akong nasaktan, mas marami ba sila dun sa mga taong natulungan ko at saka napasaya? It answers a lot of questions."

The incident also led the Kapamilya actor to live each day as meaningfully as possible.

Diether shared to the media, "I'm happy that I was given another day to live and maximize it, and to do whatever I can because may talento ako na binigay ng Diyos, e. Sabi ko, kapag nakikinig talaga ako ng payo ng mga matatanda, pasok dito, labas dito. Trabaho lang ako nang trabaho, e, hindi ko na-a-appreciate yung buhay."

He expressed his gratitude to the people who helped him become the celebrity he is today.

"Imagine how many people here ang naging kaibigan ko, na kahit makita ko 'yan hindi na ako artista o ano, o matanda na ko, meron kaming bonding na, koneksyon, alam mo yon. Nakasama ko 'to sa industriya ng pelikula, telebisyon, so you value the people that you have [connected] with, dito sa buhay na 'to."

STAYING KAPAMILYA. Late last year, Diether was reported to be leaving his long-time home network ABS-CBN for an opportunity in GMA-7. Diether neither confirmed nor denied the report.

In his post-birthday press conference, Diether admitted that he did test the waters in the rival network.

"Like I said, hindi ko inaasahan na darating ako sa punto ng buhay ko na, 'ano ba yung susunod kong gagawin'? Kasi I want something exciting, eh, kasi parang you have done so many things parang gusto mo na ng ibang level na challenge."

His other purpose in trying his luck with GMA-7 was to work with other celebrities who're bound by network's exclusive contract.

"[They say], 'You just patiently wait, darating naman.' But in my case, parang sabi ko, in this lifetime hindi na ko bata, e, parang gusto ko ring makatrabaho yung [ibang artista].. Sabi ko sa isip ko, 'Sino pa ba sa industriya ang hindi ko nakakatrabaho sa buhay ko?' I mean God knows kung hanggang kailan ako dito. Sabi ko, try nga natin. E, wala naman akong kontrata, so I took the liberty to try. I'm old enough, I can decide for myself. I can run my life."

Diether did not say directly whether or not GMA-7 offered him a project. "Nag-open 'yong door. Sabi ko, ano to Lord, parang hindi ako sanay sa ganito. Sabi ko what's in here? I'm really willing to discover a new world, culture."

Well, the ABS-CBN star did not give in to temptation. He stayed loyal to his home network.

"Naging maganda naman yung kinahinatnan. Like right now, you would see a lot of things have happened along the way. Hindi ko na maikuwento 'yong detalye, but the bottomline is, everything fell into place, talagang lahat!" said Diether.

"Meron pa talaga akong gagawin dito [ABS-CBN].' Meron pa talagang ganon na there's a purpose pala to stay here. And it turned pa na nobody make a big deal of it, dahil everyone accepted na, 'Meron ka sigurong big role na puwede pang gawin dito.'"

Diether does not consider the question of transferring or not as a negative attitude. He explained, "You see, ako kasi I always think of kahit mga imposibleng bagay, kasi sa 'kin that doesn't exist. Failures and impossibilities, both don't exist. Kaya kung puwede, ita-try ko kasi sino ang susubok na ibang tao para sa 'yo? Ikaw!"
