SM Cinemas sent PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) a short statement, through its Senior Vice President, Mr. Edgar Tejerero, about not showing Star Cinema's latest offering, And I Love You So, from any of their cinemas. (Click here to read related story.)
Based on the statement, it seems that no agreement has been reached yet.
Here is the statement of Mr. Tejerero of SM Cinemas:
"It is unfortunate that we are unable to show And I Love You So in our cinemas today. We remain committed to the continued growth of the Philippine Film Industry by providing our customers with wholesome family entertainment in our movie theaters."
And I Love You So opened yesterday, August 12, in about 100 theaters nationwide, but not in SM Cinemas.
PEP received a report from a reliable source that And I Love You So, starring Bea Alonzo, Sam Milby, and Derek Ramsay, reportedly grossed P3.4 million on its first day nationwide.
Meanwhile, Bea's last movie with John Lloyd Cruz, One More Chance (2007), grossed P5 million on its first day in SM Cinemas alone. But this is probably because Bea was paired with John Lloyd.
According to a report by YES! Magazine, SM Cinemas sell 45 percent of all movie tickets sold in the country.
