Phil Younghusband gets most of the attention.
The half-Filipino, half-British football player was a contender in GMA-7's Celebrity Duets Season 2 and he even counts himself among Cosmopolitan Magazine's 10 celebrity Centerfolds for 2009 (CLICK HERE to read related article).
But his older, equally accomplished, and equally attractive brother and fellow football player deserves to be in the limelight, too.
Cosmo.ph, the online home of Cosmopolitan Philippines, gave James Younghusband his time in the sun before the 2009 ended by hailing him Cosmo's Online Hunk. For the month-long feature, James sheds the footballer look and glams up by drawing inspiration from four actors who have played British film icon James Bond.
On his first week as Online Hunk, James posed a la Sean Connery; on his second week, Roger Moore; and on his third week, Pierce Brosnan. His final week as Online Hunk, he portrayed the latest actor to play Bond, Daniel Craig.
Cosmo.ph probes into the private life of the quieter Younghusband brother, Phil, who was only too happy to share the details.
For one, although the 23-year-old footballer has numerous athletic accolades to his name, he confides that the bravest thing he has ever done is actually dancing in front of people in TV5's Shall We Dance! "People may not think it's hard, but for me it's difficult because I'm usually conscious about the way I look. [Dancing] is not something I've done regularly in my life like soccer, which I've done regularly, so I'm not afraid to do that. But I'm open to more challenges [now]." Despite his stage fright, he shares that he was pretty thrilled about winning in the show.
James reveals that he and his brother Phil, although close, get into scuffles sometimes! "We're so passionate about things, we want to accomplish so many things. We just fight over disagreements about things."
He hasn't fully broken into the showbiz scene yet, but his plate is already full with various projects. "I'm busy with work and modeling, doing a bit of endorsing, trying to make soccer big here as a sport. Hopefully I'm gonna get to play it here soon." A member of the Philippine National Football Team and an erstwhile reserve player for the UK's Chelsea Football Club, James still considers football a major part of his life.
Still, he's not shying away from showbiz. "I would like to get into showbiz at the moment. I haven't closed the door on it yet."
About his views on dating,James describes the kind of girl he'd go for, she should be "a funny girl who knows what she wants to do in life." He elaborates by saying, "I like a girl with a good personality. I don't like stuck-up girls. I like girls who are outgoing and enjoy themselves."
The handsome athlete admits, though, that he's single at the moment. "But it'd be nice to meet somebody," he adds.
He was born in England, but James loves the Philippines just as much as any true-blooded Pinoy does. When asked whether he'd like to settle down here or in England, he says, "Definitely here in the Philippines. I think life's much better here. I enjoy it more."
