Pinky Aquino-Abellada (in photo) says she still feels sad whenever she hears a recording of her mother's voice in the MyPhone special tribute phone to former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino. "I always do my best to control. Ayokong mag-self-pity. So pag nag-uumpisa 'yan, sa totoo lang, hindi ko natatapos. Ini-stop ko. I don't know why. Hearing the voice and seeing her handwriting, when I see that, I change it. 'Wag mo nang gawin yung self mong susceptible

Traditionally, Christmas in the Aquino family is celebrated in the former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino's house on Times Street in Quezon City. Cory would take care of everything—from the food, to the invitations and entertainment.

Cory's daughter Pinky Aquino-Abellada spoke to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the launch of MyPhone's tribute phone to the former President and her husband Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino last December 17 in Dasmariñas Village in Makati City.

Accodring to Pinky, her mom Cory insisted on taking care of tradition even when she was obviously sick.

"Well, since we came back from Boston in 1983, we always have it in her house except for six years in Malacañang. 1992 to now, it's always been there, she's really the one in charge of that. Last Christmas sabi namin, 'Mom, 'wag na lang sa bahay mo,' kasi may sakit na siya no'n. Pero sabi niya, 'Kaya ko pa 'to'. And she spent the whole day preparing for Christmas... ginawa niya lahat and everything went okay," Pinky said.

But since Cory passed away last August 1, Pinky said they will surely feel sad this Christmas if they continue the tradition led by their mother.

"Definitely, we will not go back to Times, kasi it will bring back too many memories. Hindi pa namin masyadong kaya ngayon," she said.

This is why they are celebrating Christmas in Kris Aquino-Yap's house instead.

"We're spending it in the house of Kris. Not in a restaurant. Very private. We're all there, we'll just attend early Mass, tapos si Kris naggawa na siya ng memo, nag-assign-assign na siya kung anong dadalhin. So, kami lang," Pinky said.

MYPHONE TRIBUTE PHONE. MyPhone, the Filipino phone company that started the dual SIM craze in the country, has created a new cellular phone line that recognizes the contributions of Cory and Ninoy Aquino to the country. The tribute phone contains authentic letters and poems from Ninoy and Cory, personal prayers, speeches, inspirational messages, paintings, novenas, religious songs, and audio biographies. It also features recordings of the voices of the memorable couple.

Pinky said she is happy that a phone company produced a tribute phone for her parents, and that the contents are really special to her.

"Specially dun sa speech ni Dad, which is more than almost 30 years old na 'yan pero nalinis nila yung sound. Very, very happy. It's like a history lesson in the phone," Pinky said.

Her sister, TV host Kris Aquino, thinks the phone is cute.

"Nakyutan siya. We rarely see Kris because of her telenovela. Sabi nga namin, 'Hindi ka namin madalas makita.' Pero we saw her on Sunday after The Buzz. After the launch nung kanyang home product, sumunod siya sa Christmas party namin for all our household help. She saw it, nakyutan siya," Pinky narrated.

Even Kris's son Baby James recognizes Cory's voice.

"Kanina kasama ko si Baby James, in-on ko yung voice ng mom. Parang napatingin siya. So, tinitingnan-tingnan niya yung phone, sabi ko, 'That's lola,'" Pinky said.

But Pinky said she herself can't bear playing the recordings of her mom's voice on the phone.

"I always do my best to control. Ayokong mag-self-pity. So pag nag-uumpisa 'yan, sa totoo lang, hindi ko natatapos. Ini-stop ko. I don't know why. Hearing the voice and seeing her handwriting, when I see that, I change it. 'Wag mo nang gawin yung self mong susceptible, di ba? You have to help yourself," Pinky said.

Pinky also talked about her take on her brother Sen. Noynoy Aquino's soaring survey results, and her family's stand on the Hacienda Luisita controversy. Read about them in PEP's Election Watch microsite. (CLICK HERE to read related story)
