Former comedy actress Cita Astals—known in the '90s for starring in Home Along Da Riles alongside comedy great Dolphy—was supposedly seen by her neighbors in Sta. Ana, Manila, walking aimlessly around the streets near her home.
Back in 1995, Astals ran for public office in Manila and served as District 5's councilor—a position she held for nine years. Last election, she ran for vice mayor but lost to felow actor Isko Moreno. This loss is believed to have deeply affected her and she lost all contact with her friends and former constituents.
Fellow comedian and now District 6 councilor Lou Veloso comments on his friend.
"Noong nagkita kami at nag-uusap naman kami," he told Showbiz Central yesterday, March 14, "wala naman siyang sinasabi sa amin na may kailangan siya ganito, financial."
PEP TALKS TO CITA. PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) contributor Ruel Mendoza went to the place where Cita was often seen walking. After a few hours, Ruel caught sight of Cita and interviewed her.
The former councilor first tackled the news that she was roaming the streets.
"Hindi totoo," she explained. "Mayroon land grabbing syndicate dito sa amin. Ako ay binibiktima sa kasalukuyan and actually, I plan to file a case against them soon dahil iyong nakikita niyo ako na umaalis madalas sa bahay is precisely because kada makalawang araw, e nira-ransack ang bahay ko. Noong nagreklamo ako sa Crame, ginupit ng pulis ang kuryente ko. The other time, they took out the water. Talagang it's a deliberate way of trying to drive me out of the house because they want the lot. So iyon ang pinoproblema ko actually."
She added that she has already sought the help of the police but they have supposedly failed take action up to now. Showbiz Central visited the Sta. Ana Police Station 6 to find out why.
POLICE EXPLAIN INACTION. A certain SPO1 Plantado explained the situation. The officer said, "Based on records lang, e, nagre-report lang siya madalas. Wala naman witnesses and we also have coordinated with barangay officials. Sabi nila mayroon pero it cannot be proven kung talagang may pumasok o wala. So we put the place in follow-up na lang."
Cita also made it known that she didn't need any help, but Lou Veloso thinks otherwise.
"Tina-try namin makatulong, lalo na si Vice Mayor. In fact, ino-offer-an na siya ng trabaho sa munisipyo. Siyempre, alam niyo naman si Cita, strong 'yan, e, at hangga't kaya niya, e kakayanin niya. But siyempre, she needs family and friends who will take care of her and we are trying din na hanapin kung sino ang mga kamag-anak din niya talaga. Nananawagan kami sa relatives niya na dumamay kayo sa amin."
