ELECTION WATCH: Rep. Bongbong Marcos will not stop his three sons if they decide to join showbiz

Apr 13, 2010
"Will I allow my boys to enter showbiz? Yeah, I'm not going to tell them what they can and cannot do. Ang ano ko lang naman sa mga bata, kung may gagawin kayo, do it well, do it right. Basta work hard at it and be good at it," says Cong. Bongbong Marcos (2nd from left) about his three sons: Sandro, Vincent, and Simon.

"They are here for their Easter break and they are leaving at the end of this week. So, we thought it might be a good idea for them to play a part in the campaign. They've been going around with us. My eldest Sandro actually made his first speech before the public and it was successful. We're here to answer your questions and I have already briefed them about this kind of affair," paliwanag ni Cong.

Sandro: "At the moment, I study in Worth School in England. In fact, it's where my dad graduated from. I'm 16. Well, in terms of interest and hobbies, in terms as a family, we're very musical. I'm also interested in sports like soccer."

Simon: "I too, I'm in Worth. I'm 14 years old. I play drums. I like doing sports. My favorite subject would have to be English, Biology, and Geography."

Vincent: "I'm also in Worth. I'm 12 years old. My interest, I like to play piano. I also play sports such as soccer."

Marcos, who plays the flute and saxophone.

Ginagawa nga nila itong biro kapag magkakasama sila.

"You know that my mother [former Firlst Lady Imelda Marcos] has...walang apo na babae. Lahat, yung anak ni Irene, tatlong lalake. Anak ko tatlong lalake. Si Imee, dalawang lalake. So, hindi kami marunong gumawa ng babae. So, we call the boys the 'Marcos Monsters!'" biro ni Cong. Marcos.

Bakit naman "Marcos Monsters"?

"Why? Because can you imagine the house, there were eight boys, kasama si Borgy [Manotoc, Imee's son], siya yung pinakamatanda sa mga magpipinsan, e. So, si Borgy at that time mga 18 ganun. Isipin mo from Borgy all the way down to Vinny [Vincent]...Vinny is the youngest, e. Eight boys in the house, parang mga kabayo doon sa loob ng bahay n'yo. Something will break. Ang gugulo, ang kukulit! So, itong grupong itong ang tawag the 'Marcos Monsters!'" natatawang paliwanag niya.

LETTING THE BOYS JOIN SHOWBIZ.

"But of course. Will I allow my boys to enter showbiz? Yeah, I'm not going to tell them what they can and cannot do. Ang ano ko lang naman sa mga bata, kung may gagawin kayo, do it well, do it right. Basta work hard at it and be good at it. Right now, they are into music. Si Sandro is playing guitars but he's more into sports now playing cricket kaya nawawalan na ng time with his guitars. Si Vincent plays the piano. Si Simon is into drums. But again, if that's what they want, then fine."

"No, nervous mother, more likely!" natatawang sabi ni Liza.

MEMORIES OF HIS "SHOWBIZ CAREER.

"I never had a career," sagot niya. "What happened is that they asked me, they told me that, 'You're going to...pagkatapos ng eskuwela mo they will take you and you have to do this movie about your father. And you are playing yourself.' So, every day, after school, dadalhin ako sa set and they tell me to do this and other things.

"To be perfectly honest, I was so young, I must be about seven years old. I really didn't quite know what was going on. I didn't think it was a movie. I thought it was a TV program or a documentary or something. But it became clear to me when they called other people, stars were called. 'What are we doing? I think we're acting.'

"But what ended my movie career? Nothing ended my movie career. It was just a...yung sumusubok... I guess they couldn't find someone else to play my part. That's another question that I'm going to ask my mom, why they chose me and not an actor."

Any memories about Gina Alajar and Vilma Santos?

"I saw both of them. I saw Gina in a dinner in a friend's house. And we were laughing and I said, 'Can you imagine those times that we are together? And then watching this movie being made? And who would know I would end up here also in politics?'

"And the I saw also Vilma together with Ralph [Recto, Vilma's husband] and I reminded her. I told her, 'Remember that we made a movie about my parents? Look at us now, we're both in the same field, both in politics. Who would have thought?' So, we had a good laugh about that," salaysay ni Rep. Marcos.
