The Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center (NFSDC)—now a 3,000-square-meter and a two-level facility that houses highly-advanced interactive learning tools and nine walk-through galleries—launched its partnership with the Discovery Channel last April 30 at the 2nd floor, Southside Entertainment Building, SM Mall of Asia.
Right after the launching, a race dubbed "Discovery Dash" took place at the Music Hall, with singer-actress Nikki Gil and boxer Joanne Ignacio as hosts, and some musicians, models, and cagers as participants.
Singers Nyoy Volante and Mike Chan, together with harpist Noelle Cassandra, formed the group called Team Smart CoEd.
"It's fun! It's a fun event. Eto yung mga activities na hindi mo nagagawa in your everyday life," Nyoy said.
Mike Chan assumed the leader's role. "I will coach, they will do", he said. Noelle added, "And we're gonna do all the dirty work!"
Other participants were—DJs Nicole Hyala and Chris Tsuper; cagers Nonoy Baclao (Ateneo Blue Eagles), Elmer Espiritu (U.E. Red Warriors), and Froilan Baguion (Asean Basketball League); and Miss. Earth beauties.
For a few hours, the contestants went through Amazing Race-inspired challenges that fostered team work, and tested their physical strength, wit, speed, and grace under pressure. In the end, the musicians emerged as the winners in the celecrity edition.
