Three glee clubs battled it out to win the title of Great Glee Sing Off national champions last June 8, at SM Centerstage at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
The young singers of Northwind Singers (from Trinity University of Asia), Himig Sanghaya (from Laguna), and Blazing Sensations (from La Salle Greenhills) gave their best shot during audition, which led them to the championship where they had to perform two songs. They also had to impress the panel of judges which include The Company singers Moy Ortiz and Sweet Plantado, who is also a mentor from Trumpets Playshop.
For the first part, the three show choirs sang ballad songs from Sony music, which they drew before the finals. Among these songs were "Kaleisdoscope World" by late King of Local Rap Francis Magalona, "214" by Rivermaya, and "Shake Yer Head" by Eraserheads, which Blazing Sensations, Himig Sanghaya, and Northwind Singers performed, respectively.
The last part required the contestants to perform songs featured in Glee—"Taking Chances" by Celine Dion, "Jump" by Van Halen, and "My Life Would Suck Without You" by Kelly Clarkson.
Blazing Sensations, Himig Sanghaya, and Northwind Singers performed these songs, respectively.
In the end, it was the group from Trinity University of Asia that emerged as the grand champion. The group received a cash prize of P100,000, a group workshop from Trumpets, and gift packs from sponsors.
Himig Sanghaya placed second and Blazing Sensations, third. They both took home a cash prize, a group workshop package from Trumpets, gift packs from sponsors.
Performances by the talents from Trumpets spiced up the event. They opened the show by imitating the characters in Glee and performing some of its hit songs—"No Air," "Sweet Caroline," "True Colors,"I Dreamed a Dream," "Defying Gravity," and "Keep Holding On."
The Company also wowed the audience with their amazing rendition of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." Both songs were adapted in the final episode of Glee shown earlier this week.
Recognizing the success of the competition, the organizers announced that Jack TV and ETC will have another Glee Sing Off in time for the opening of the show's second season in September.
