"Hindi naman kailangang magpaalam," says Carla Abellana when asked if she sought screen partner Geoff Eigenmann's approval before agreeing to work with Dennis Trillo in the upcoming romantic drama anthology Love Bug: "The Last Romance."

Carla Abellana welcomes the opportunity to work with a new leading man other than her screen partner Geoff Eigenmann.

The young actress got her wish via GMA-7's new Sunday afternoon drama anthology titled Love Bug, which will premiere on May 23 after Party Pilipinas.

For the show's debut titled "The Last Romance," Carla is paired for the first time with award-winning actor Dennis Trillo. Dennis and Carla were of course part of the reality-based artista search show StarStruck V, but this is the first time they will star together in a romantic drama.

"It's hard to compare kasi siyempre iba sila, e. Well, si Geoff siyempre nakasanayan ko na po bilang love team partner for almost a year and every project I had, siya po ang ka-partner ko. It was very nice to be with Dennis for the first time kasi actually, matagal ko na siyang gustong makatrabaho kasi alam kong napakagaling niyang aktor," said Carla at the press launching of the upcoming drama anthology program held at Sun Cruises in Pasay City last night, May 18.

Some of the scenes that will be seen in "The Last Romance" were shot in Hong Kong while aboard the Star Cruises Aquarius. Hong Kong's Disneyland, likewise, provided an appealing backdrop to the entire story.

Carla immediately dismissed the possibility of falling in love with Dennis, who is presently being linked to fellow Kapuso star Jennylyn Mercado.

"Dennis and I were put together in this show to work professionally," stressed Carla. "It will stay that way."

REAL SCORE WITH GEOFF. Carla also candidly discussed the current state of her relationship with Geoff.

Fans hoping for a real-life romance between the two would be disappointed that a relationship remains far-fetched despite showbiz reporters' persistent teasing.

"Kung ano man 'yong meron sa amin, siyempre kung ano 'yong totoo, 'yon ang ilalabas namin. We wouldn't deny anything or hide anything or lie about anything. Hindi kami ganun ni Geoff. Hindi kami showbiz," she pointed out.

Carla smiled when asked if she's getting tired of answering questions about her off-screen relationship with the son of renowned actors Gina Alajar and Michael de Mesa.

"Ako din nagsasabi lang din ng totoo, so okay lang. No matter how many times you ask us, okay lang, ganun pa rin naman ang sagot," Carla replied.

Carla and Geoff first worked together in the local adaptation of Rosalinda before following it up with SRO Cinemaserye's "Carinderia Queen." Both stars had no problem assuming supporting roles to Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal in the primetime fantasy series The Last Prince.

The two, however, will be back playing lead roles in the upcoming Sine Novela presentation titled Basahang Ginto.

"Thankful ako na tuloy tuloy 'yong trabaho. So nakakatuwa kasi I know na kailangan ko 'to para makapag-practice ako," she said.

NOT A STAGE DAD. Carla is excited to work with her father, Rey "PJ" Abellana, in Love Bug.

PJ will portray the role of Abel, the father of Carla's cancer-stricken character named Rackie.

"Nung una medyo kinabahan ako kasi hindi ko alam kung anong kalalabasan," recalled the 23-year-old actress to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal). "First time siyempre and daddy ko 'yon, e, di ako sanay katrabaho daddy ko. Pero ang galing niya! Sabi ko, ganito pala 'yong pakiramdam na kaeksena mo 'yong dad mo compared to watching him only on TV."

Carla will share many "heartfelt" scenes with PJ: "We talk about sensitive issues... Iyakan talaga."

Did PJ acted like a stage father on the set?

"My dad is not a stage father at all!" Carla beamed proudly. "He's very busy with work which we are very thankful for dahil at least tuloy-tuloy din ang trabaho niya. Hindi naman siya stage father, but from time to time, he would call para mangumusta."

Her dad is not fond of offering criticism about her acting. "He never criticized me naman. Pag tatawag lang siya, sasabihin lang niya, 'Uy, napanood kita! I'm very proud of you and just continue to do well.' Pero walang tips in terms of acting."
