"Napaka-special ng award. When you reach 50s or when you grow old, you look back, puwede mong sabihin na 2007, 2008, and 2009 mga pelikula ko 'yong pinakamaraming nanood," says John Lloyd Cruz about his third Box-Office King award for the movie You Changed My Life

John Lloyd Cruz says another box-office award is a very timely gift for his 27th birthday on June 24.

The Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation will crown the actor as a Box-Office King for the third time on June 22. This is for You Changed My Life, his 2009 movie with Sarah Geronimo, who is hailed as Box-Office Queen. John Lloyd was also named Box-Office King for A Very Special Love (2008, also with Sarah) and One More Chance (2007, with Bea Alonzo). (CLICK HERE to read related article.)

"I'm very excited, napakagandang regalo!" John Lloyd gushed about the award in an interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press during the launch of his latest Greenwich commercial last Tuesday, June 8, at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

Although an award is not his main motivation in doing his job, the multi-awarded actor said it's great to have one that he'll treasure when he grows older.

When you reach 50s or when you grow old, you look back, puwede mong sabihin na 2007, 2008, and 2009, mga pelikula ko 'yong pinakamaraming nanood. Napaka-special ng award. Malapit na siyang mangyari and in time for my birthday, napakagandang regalo."

John Lloyd doesn't let it get to his head though. He avoids thinking about awards when he does his job.

"Ang hirap kapag kinu-consider mo 'yong idea na [sikat na]. Kapag pumasok na sa utak mo na 'I'm on top,' parang wala nang ibang way kundi ang pababa. Ang sa akin kasi, hindi ko siya ginagawang motivation. And 'yong being popular parang, hypocrisy aside, alam naman nating kilala tayo. Pero ako siguro, manifestation lang ng inner passion mo, inner drive mo. Kumbaga, parang manifestation lang 'yon na puwede mong i-consider na para bang bonus na mas nakikilala ka. Pero hindi 'yon ang talagang goal."

While John Lloyd enjoys recognition, he shares this with his two leading ladies, Bea Alonzo and Sarah Geronimo, who were crowned Box-Office Queens.

He stated, "Siyempre, para sa isang love team or nakatrabaho natin ng ilang beses, si Sarah will always be special. In the same way na kung paano naging special sa akin si Bea. Sabi ko nga, itong mga taong ito, part ito ng kung ano ang narating ko, kung ano 'yong napatunayan natin. So, malaking bahagi na sila ng professional or personal outlook ko."

WORKING ON HIS BIRTHDAY. On another note, John Lloyd's 27th birthday may be different from his past birthdays because of his busy showbiz schedule. Instead of spending his special day on June 24 with his family and friends, he may celebrate it with the staff and crew of his upcoming TV series with Angel Locsin, Imortal.

"Dati kasi, palagi akong may birthday week. Usually kasi pinapa-block-off ko 'yong [buong week]. Kung hindi kaya ng five days, at least man lang mga four days ng week ko. I usually spend it with my family and friends either here or sa ibang lugar or sa beach or kung anuman," he said.

John Lloyd will enjoy his coming birthday, he says, because it'll be the first time he'll celebrate it on the set.

"Since I'm about to start taping for Imortal, medyo time to work muna. And gusto ko rin ma-experience na habang nagtratrabaho, e, ma-celebrate ko rin ang birthday ko," John Lloyd said with a smile.
