"I was in Omaha, Nebraska. I really didn't have a great childhood. When I was around seven years old, my biological mom was given custody. And that time, I lived in a neighborhood where there was drugs, prostitution, robberies and everything that was going around. And my mom would abuse me every day, she would hit me a lot," reveals the PBB finalist, whose good fortune continues with a VJ hosting gig at MYX.

"I was in Omaha, Nebraska. I really didn't have a great childhood. When I was around seven years old, my biological mom was given custody. And that time, I lived in a neighborhood where there was drugs, prostitution, robberies and everything that was going around. And my mom would abuse me every day, she would hit me a lot," Bret revealed when PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) sat down with him after the prescon last Tuesday for the PBB Teen Clash Big 6 held at the 9501 Restaurant inside the ABS-CBN compound.

"At that time, I would go out of the house and sleep outside. There were so many things happening to me when I was a kid. It's really hard to talk about the details," Bret admitted.

"I consider her my real mom. She is my real mom," paglalahad ni Bret. "I felt I never had a mom until her. So right now, I'm so happy to have her."

"I'm so proud of her. She has supported me every step of the way. And I can never repay her for whatever she has done for me."

Pitong taon na siyang naninirahan sa Dumaguete at marunong siyang mag-Bisaya.

FEEL AT HOME.

"When I first came here, I was accepted right away. When I was in school, everyone just accepted me at once. That feeling felt so great. The Filipinos are so great. And I'm so happy to be one right now," nakangiting sabi ni Bret.

"I'm sleeping with babies and little kids. I also teach my teenager cousins how to play guitar. I love them so much."

LOVE FOR MUSIC. Last year lang nagsimula ang kanyang pagkahilig sa musika.

"I started writing songs and singing. Actually, I felt that I really had a bad voice. I would stay up and make sure that everyone is asleep. I would play guitar and sing every two hours at night... I never let anyone hear it," sabi ni Bret.

Wala siyang formal training sa pagtugtog or pagkanta, pero "I think music comes from your soul. The best way to give your music out is to just let it come out directly," Bret explained.

"It was VJ Chino and VJ Bianca who said it to me. They came to the house and said that they had accepted me as a VJ," confirmed Bret who loves watching the music channel.

DEFERRING MED SCHOOL.

"Going back to school is still a big option for me. So, maybe I can go back later on especially since I want to enter med school. I want to help a lot of people."

"If I become successful here, that means I can help out even more people. If I can help more, that's better. So, I'd love to become successful just to help out everyone."
