Phil Younghusband: "Showbiz is not for me."

Last Wednesday, July 7, Phil Younghusband was launched as the one of the brand ambassadors of Globe Blackberry at the Republiq Cafe in Pasay City. Angelo Yaneza (not in photo), the head for device management, said, "Phil will represent sports, and those who have active lifestyle."

"I'm free."

This was Phil Younghusband's brief statement to describe the status of his career.

His contract with his former manager Joyce Ramirez ended just "last Sunday [July 4]." But he clarified, "I'm still in contract [with] Alaska, still in contract with Freego...So none of my [endorsement] contracts ended. Just with my manager..."

The 22-year-old half-Pinoy, half- British became obviously uncomfortable talking about the issue, and requested, "I don't want to talk about my former manager."

It will be recalled that January of this year, Joyce Ramirez granted PEP an exclusive interview citing that her then ward had gone incommunicado, and that some of his endorsements had reportedly started questioning his "good moral character." (CLICK HERE to read related story.)

Through it all, Phil chose to keep mum. And even if he's no longer under Joyce's wings, the model-athlete maintains his quiet stance.

He'd rather focus on the path he wants to take: Away from showbiz.

"SHOWBIZ IS NOT FOR ME." Philip James Placer Younghusband (his full name) started playing for the famed Chelsea FC since he was 9.

Chelsea is a 110-year-old English professional football club based in west London, where "they spent most of their history in the top tier of English Football,"according to BBC Sports.

In 2003, he was cited as the youth team's top scorer; then in 2005, he became the professional team's striker. Three years later, his contract ended, and he decided to move to the Philippines, where showbiz beckoned.

The six-footer Phil attracted a lot of endorsements, including a singing stint in Celebrity Duets.

But he eventually got busy with his first love: Football.

Last January, he set up The Younghusband Football Academy that aims to promote the sport in the country. He's been playing for the National Football Team as well.

"We hope to go professional soon," he said. And when this happens, Philippines might get qualified to enter the FIFA World Cup Finals.

As he was talking, showbiz was the farthest thing from his mind. "I wanna be known as an athlete. I prefer to study sports," he stated.

Modeling? He nodded. Then again, we mentioned showbiz, which got a "not for me" answer from the football star.

"I'M SINGLE." The topic shifted to his lovelife. His quick reaction, "No, no...just friends."

He's been single for "two years now," and when we exclaimed "whaaaaat???" his simple reason was: "It's just [that] I've been concentrating on other things."

Do you have a celebrity crush?

His reply: "No, [I'd go for] non-showbiz."

How about Rhian Ramos, who was previously linked to him?

He just shook his head, then said, "Don't...really know her."

Now ladies, here's his description of the girl he wants to date: "I prefer Filipinas [more than] Europeans. I like dark hair. I like not too dark skin, not too white skin."

And lastly, he wants her to understand that his heart at present belongs to football.
