Recently hailed Philippine's sexiest by FHM, actress Angel Locsin once again proved her charm when she received the ICON award at the Us Girls August Awards 2010 at the ICON Bar in Makati City last night, August 19.
Chosen by the staff of the premiere lifestyle program Us Girls for her various achievements in both her personal life and career, Angel modestly accepted the award.
"Hindi ko talaga ito ine-expect. Yung ma-recognize ka ng mga tao hindi lang dahil nakikita ka sa telebisyon, malaking bagay na iyon,"Angel said in an interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press.
More than a decade in show business, the actress has received a multitude of recognition given by respected award-giving bodies, like PMPC's Star Awards and the 37th International Emmy Awards, among others.
Angel was also cited for her active involvement in socio-civic activities. She is a supporter of the Gabriela Foundation, a nongovernment organization that supports women and children.
During the Ondoy tradegy September last year, the 25-year-old actress actively participated in the relief operations and even initiated a text and online brigade to her colleagues for donations for the typhoon victims.
When asked how she feels now that she is considered one of the role models of Filipino youth, she answered shyly, "Hindi ko masyado iniisip, pero sana sa mga munting ginagawa ko, ma-encourage ko 'yong mga kabataan na hindi porke't may pera ka saka ka lang puwede tumulong sa kapwa. May boses ka para sabihin yung mga dapat mong sabihin. Sa mga kababaihan, alamin yung mga karapatan niya. "
Other awardees that night were Mickey See, Lourd Ramos, and Claire Diokno for Make-up Artist of the Year; Kat Cruz, Alyanna Martinez, and Angela Alarcon for Stylist of the Year; Andi Eigenmann and Erich Gonzales for Face of the Year (Teens Category); and Kristine Hermosa and Kim Chui for Face of the Year (20's Category). The winners for the Best Dressed were Solenn Heusaff, Georgina Wilson, Mai Kaufman, Iza Calzado, Ornissa Cadness, and Kelly Misa.
Last year, the US Girls Icon Award went to KC Concepcion
Other personalities who graced the event were Bubbles Paraiso, Megan Young, Oyo Sotto, Nikki Gil, and Sam Concepcion.
The program was hosted by Us Girls' Angel Aquino, Cheska Garcia-Kramer, and Iya Villania. Us Girls is aired on Studio 23 every Sunday.
