Television host and weatherman Kim Atienza is now out of danger.
Last August 16, he was transferred to a regular room from the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of Makati Medical City.
The popular adventurer of Matanglawin clearly remembered what happened the morning he had a stroke. It was August 16, as first reported by PEP Alerts, at around 8:30 a.m., after taking a shower, he related in a phone interview last week. "Para akong nag-out of body experience. I got dizzy then disoriented. It felt weird that I could see my right arm but I can't seem to move it. Suddenly I found myself unable to speak so I had the driver bring me to the hospital sa PGH [Philippine General Hospital].
"From there, nilipat din ako sa Makati Med, and buti na lang, I was treated within the crucial three-hour period. I was in the ICU for six days."
Test results showed high cholesterol and six blood clots in his brain. It really helped that he got immediate treatment, which allowed his condition to get better. In about three days, he was able regain his speech and move the right side of his body.
Kim added, "It was a miracle, thank God, and thanks to friends and family who prayed for me, and to the doctors who helped me. I am recovering well. I will take a few months off after my discharge for much needed rest, and to spend time with my wife and kids."
This means that he will not be visible on television just yet. Aside from Matanglawin, Kuya Kim—his popular showbiz name—is also one of the resident hosts of Showtime.
"Life is short, and this wake-up call experience has taught me to take things easy, and take extra care of my health. Please continue to pray for me," said Kim.
