Piolo Pascual was all smiles when he greeted the media, including PEP, invited by SunLife Financial Philippines to the opening of the actor-singer's exhibit at Fully Booked on Bonifacio High Street in Taguig City.
His enthusiastic opening: "We were able to raise P600,000, and all the proceeds went to the foundation for the education of students. So far, we have more than a hundred scholars."
The Kapamilya star was talking about his SunPIOLOgy calendar, which he put together last year "free of charge." He wasn't an endorser of the company yet when he agreed to share his travel photos.
This year, Piolo is launching his SunPIOLOgy planner called Pursuits Journal, which focuses on his "nature-inspired" photographs.
The actor said proceeds of the project will also go to Hebreo 12:1, the foundation he started that aims to "foster a life worth living for all people in this nation."
"We hope to be able to send more kids to school. For every planner na bibilhin nila, P50 will go to the foundation.
"And we also have an online bidding for all the photographs that I took, so it's ongoing till my birthday on January 12. From there, magkakaroon na naman ng turnover," he said.
Earlier that day, he received a check amounting to 135,000 pesos from SunLife Financial Philippines, which he endorses. "Pre-orders pa lang ito for the planner," Piolo said, beaming.
GOOD INFLUENCE. The topic shifted to KC Concepcion.
Their last project was the local adaptation of Lovers in Paris, which ended in December 2009. The press, however, continued to write about Piolo and KC as a possible couple.
Kristina (which is how Piolo calls KC) recently transferred to the talent management arm of ABS-CBN, Star Magic, which also handles the career of Piolo. KC used to be handled by Shirley Kuan and Sandra Chavez.
The Noah star clarified, "Yung pag-transfer niya sa Star Magic — it was her decision, not mine. Kahit maraming nagsasabi na ako yung nag-influence sa kanya o ako yung nag-udyok sa kanya to transfer.
"Alam naman natin na may kanya-kanya kaming desisyon sa buhay. Masaya ako because Kristina chose to be with Star Magic.
"But to set the record straight, it was her decision, not mine," he said.
"And, of course, I was there through the process, to support her and give her good advice. But at the end of the day, sa kanya pa rin manggagaling yung decision."
He took the opportunity to thank the Megastar, who cleared him in this issue.
PJ (Piolo's nickname) continued, "I'm happy. Alam naman ng lahat, lalabas at lalabas ang katotohanan. I'm thankful kay Tita Sharon kasi she defended me, and she didn't need to.
"But, of course, masaya ako kasi kahit papa'no hindi ko kinailangan magsalita. I didn't need to defend myself."
Dagdag niya, "But yun nga, KC is a very brilliant person and intelligent, na hindi mo naman kailangang turuan what to do."
SUPPORTIVE BOSS. During the interview, Piolo's personal assistant Moi Bien, who became popular because of her stint on Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Showdown, was on the sidelines, waiting for her boss.
Piolo quipped that Moi is "sumasabay na sa pagka-busy ko."
He added:"Kanina nasa kotse kami. On our way here, may tawag sa isang show... Sinabi niya, kasama ko raw siya sa susunod na show. May inquiry, e, so nakakatuwa.
"Nagpapalaam siya sa akin, marami naman kami sa bahay, so okay lang."
The situation has the makings of a sitcom—a celebrity with a celebrity-assistant. But in this case, Piolo has been giving Moi his support.
The recording artist affirmed, "You know, it's an opportunity you don't want to pass up. Ang sabi ko sa kanya, just grab it, and masaya naman siya.
"Na-i-enjoy naman niya ginagawa niya. I'm happy for her, of course!"
When asked to describe Moi, he quipped, "Ambisyosang yaya."
Laughing, he added, "Ambisyosa naman talaga siya, e... in a good way."
UP NEXT. The sun shines brightly on Piolo.
He is working on the sequel of Kimmy Dora, the surprise hit he produced last year starring Eugene Domingo.
With his successful forays in photography, does he have any plans of becoming a director?
"I see myself siguro, producing muna," he quickly answered. "I don't see myself directing anytime soon, you know. It's not in the horizon. But who knows..."
He said he believes in taking things one step at a time.
"I wanna focus on being an actor, promoting my advocacy of education, and producing. I'm also coming up with an album so magagahol tayo sa oras kung dadagdagan ko pa yun."
His next movie project is with Kim Chiu. As soon as they fix their schedules, they will start shooting the film.
Lastly, PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked him if his plans include marriage in the near future.
"Wow," was his candid reaction.
Turning serious, he said, "I guess there are still a lot of things I can do. Photography naman, passion ko naman 'to.
"I never thought na, you know, puwede palang gamitin ito sa advocacy, di ba? Yung mga pursuits natin sa buhay, they will all fall into place in time."
He is not in any hurry, Piolo finally answered.
"In God's time... I'm not in any rush.
"As it is, we are so busy with our careers and we just grab whatever opportuniy there is for now. If and when that happens, everyone will know."
