Sarah Geronimo wishes to portray "deep" character in movies

At the press launch of her One Heart album, Sarah Geronimo said that despite her busy schedule, she makes it a point to find time for her studies. She is presently an "irregular [student] po—parang first year-second year pa lang"—enrolled under the Open University program of University of the Philippines. "Pagka mag-e-exam po, magpupunta po ako sa campus. Nung nag-pelikula po, hindi ko nagagawa yung ano...Ngayon po

Performing was where Sarah Geronimo wanted to shine after winning the Star For A Night singing contest in 2003. And she did.

Her albums reached multi-platinum status, and her sold-out concerts earned her the tag "record breaker."

But ABS-CBN, her home for seven years now, had bigger plans. Aside from singing, she was asked to try her hand at acting. In 2009, she was crowned the Box-Office Queen for the success of her movie A Very Special Love.

In an interview with (Philippine Entertainment Portal), she was grateful for the break that the Kapamilya network has been giving her. "Hindi ko po akalain na magiging ganun, at malaking pasasalamat dahil kung di dahil sa ABS, hindi nangyari yun."

The last report we had, her film Catch Me, I'm In Love with Gerald Anderson will have a sequel?

"Sabi po nila?" she asked back, then smiled, "Kung sabi po ng Star [Cinema], so nandiyan na, di ba po?"

We mentioned her previous movie characters–Laida Magtalas and Roan Sanchez; the fate of the two ladies was similar: both came from simple families and fell for rich bachelors. Is it part of the plan for her to get typecast in such role?

The prized star of Viva said no, and quipped, "Dun kasi kinikilig yung mga tao so ibigay natin kung ano yung gusto nila."

But if she were to have a choice, Sarah said she wishes to veer away from her "simple-girl" role. "Sana po mas deep na yung character atsaka mas deep din iyong istorya, atsaka yung challenging talaga," she said simply.

"Yung challenging pero hindi naman magta-trying hard na maging dramatic actress kaagad. So, yung iba lang talaga from Laida and Roan, kasi almost similar naman po talaga sila, even yung story."

Does she want to shift from romantic comedy to drama?

Her quick reply: "Yung sakto lang po."

PEP blogger Jojo Gabinete asked, "Mga Nora Aunor?"

OTHER THINGS SHE WANTS TO DO. She's a recording artist, a TV star, a movie actress, and an endorser, but only a few know about her other talent. "Mahilig po akong mag-drawing," she revealed.

Aside from her singing and dancing lessons this coming May, the 22-year-old star wants to pursue her secret hobby. "Gusto ko pong matuto. Gusto kong mag-aral...mag-painting class...."

But one step at a time, she said. "Saka na po sila. Kailangan ko pang mag-improve yung sa [craft] ko," she said.

Does she still have time for herself?

She smiled in response. During her spare time, she related, "Mahilig [akong] magbasa—mga love story, siyempre po, saka yung mga inspirational."

When asked to describe quality time, she replied with a laugh, "Nag-i-stay lang sa bahay, natutulog, kumakain."

For her 23rd birthday on July 25, we heard she's going to have a birthday concert.

"Talaga po?" she exclaimed. "Wala pa po akong naririnig. Pero October to November will be the U.S. tour."

How about her next TV projects?

"Wala pa po akong naririnig. Baka mag-movie po ulit," Sarah said.

The lady has no demands or expectations as far as her projects are concerned. "Sila po bahala," she told PEP. "Ako po, basta kung ano yung nandiyan na project, focus lang po ako dun."

With her openness to whatever life offers, and her talents yet to be tapped—Sarah Geronimo will surely realize her depths as an actress.
