Dingdong Dantes on keeping a healthy body: "Hindi kailangang magpakababoy."

"Mahirap siya pero kailangan mong ipulis ang sarili mo paminsan-minsan. Otherwise, ikaw rin, hindi maganda ang kalalabasan mo sa TV man o sa pelikula man," says Dingdong Dantes about keeping a healthy body.


Dingdong Dantes says staying healthy is a responsibility.

He guffawed when PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) reminded him of what he used to look like during his T.G.I.S. days in the '90s.

"Weird. Talagang ang weird!" the former teen actor said when we asked him about his chubby look then.

Dingdong used to wear loose shirts and pants in the defunct youth-oriented show of GMA-7. But this changed as he grew older.

He worked on losing weight and getting fit because he thought it was one way to maintain his career in show business.

"Nag-start siya noong 2006," he recalled. "Kasi, I was trying to lose the weight even before pero may mali akong ginagawa noon. When I did it right, 'yon ang time na nag-cover ako sa Men's Health [2007]."

Since then, Dingdong observed the changes in his body. In fact, among the three covers that he did for Men's Health, the 30-year-old actor said that he's at his best this year.

He told PEP, "Ito ang pinakagusto ko, siyempre, dahil mas equipped ng mga karunungan.

"Masaya lang ako dahil nakikita ko rin 'yong improvement ko, kung meron man. Kinukumpara ko 'yong tatlo every two years, e, 2007, 2009, and 2011."

PROPER DIET AND REGULAR WORKOUT. Does Dingdong follow a certain workout to maintain his body?

He replied, "Wala. Iniiba-iba ko palagi.

"Nasa pagkain talaga, e. For this [June issue of Men's Health], I stick with fish, vegetables, and kamote."

As for the body workout, Dingdong believes that one doesn't have to spend long hours in gyms.

"It doesn't have to be [long workouts]," he said. "Less than an hour nga lang, kung puwede araw-araw. Basta high intensity and high in cardio. Atsaka hindi kailangang mabigat."

As a celebrity, the former I Heart You Pare actor did not deny that there's a certain pressure on him to maintain a fit body.

Dingdong also stressed in the end, "It's also part of my responsibility naman na hindi kailangang magpakababoy."
