Us Girls August Awards still rockin' 'n' rollin' on its third year

Kapamilya star Anne Curtis was named Icon of the Year for 2011. Anne says she is very honored to receive the award. She is flattered that a lot of people look up to her not just as an actress but as a fashion model and life inspiration to some girls out there.

August may be known as the "ghost month" in some cultures, but for Us Girls, it is the time to celebrate and honor the people that have made an impact on the local entertainment and fashion scene in the past year.

Studio 23's long-running weekly magazine show held its annual Us Girls August Awards for the third time at the Amber Ultra Lounge in The Fort last August 18.

It was a packed house full of media guests and fans who came to support the celebrities and personalities who were nominated for some awards.

Among them were My Binondo Girl stars Matteo Guidicelli and Xian Lim who tied for the sexiest male award along with Philippine Azkals' Phil Younghusband who was represented by his equally sexy teammate Paolo Pascual.

Their female counterpart was Happy Yipee Yehey! host Bianca Manalo who looked smashing in her body-fitting Hervé Leger dress.

Stylish beauties Liz Uy, Bianca Gonzalez and Georgina Wilson also made a triple tie in the most fashionable female category.

Gerald Anderson, Sam Milby and Hayden Kho, on the other hand, were named most fashionable males.

Way Back Home star Julia Montes was delighted to be nominated and she won the Face of the Year award for the first time.

In fact, she is the youngest recipient of the award.

The biggest honor went to actress and Showtime host Anne Curtis who was named Icon of the Year.

According to Us Girls hosts Angel Aquino, Iya Villania and Cheska Garcia—who were part of the panel that chose Anne—it is Anne's encompassing presence in all media avenues that made her a highly influential personality, hence, deserving to be called an icon.

Other fashion industry players were also recognized for their continuous effort in helping girls all over the country to look and feel good about themselves.

They are makeup artists Ricci Chan and Albert Kuriniawan; and stylists Geolette Esguerra, Boop Yap, Kimi Yap, Patty Yap and Bianca Cordero.

The event was livened up by performances from some of the most popular music acts in the country today.

The all-female group General Luna opened the show.

They were later followed by rapper Gloc 9 and other solo performers like acoustic singer Princess Velasco and YouTube sensation Marié Digby.

Bands like Franco and Moonstar 88 also showcased their ingenious musicality.

Finally, the show capped off with electrifying tunes from Diego Mapa and his band Pedicab.
