Growing up in a simple home in Sampaloc, Manila, Star Power's first-ever grand champion Angeline Quinto has now evolved into the singing star she is destined to be.
From a once chubby hopeful when she auditioned for the show, she is now more poised and really looks stunning in diva-fit gowns.
At her first major concert entitled Patuloy Ang Pangarap last July 15, 2011 at the SM Sky Dome, many commented on how well Angeline carried the beautiful creations of designers Pepsi Herrera, Anthony Ramirez and Kenneth Chua. (CLICK HERE to view photos)
The serpentina (basically a body-fitting dress that starts flaring from the knee down) is a good silhouette for Angeline's sexy figure.
The 21-year-old singer is blessed with a full chest and adequate hip size—assets which she used to her advantage in putting on the shiny garbs.
Gowns are always tricky for anyone to wear.
Its glamorous and glossy appeal can lure the eyes away from the wearer; making the gown the star rather than making the person look like a star.
But in Angeline's case, it was the other way around. The gowns she wore actually accentuated her and gave her that stellar look the audience was looking for.
On a normal day, though, Angeline remains the simple lass she always has been.
She considers denim jeans to be a staple in her "daily uniform."
"[Ang suot ko] madalas po maong kasi comfortable ako sa maong," says Angeline when PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) followed her every footstep last August 22. (CLICK HERE to see photo gallery of PEP's A Day in the Life of Angeline Quinto feature)
Prior to her appearance on ASAP Rocks that day, Angeline was garbed in a plain white long-sleeved shirt and denim jeans—an outfit that is just perfect for her on-the-go schedule. (Yes, she has to literally run around studio hallways sometimes just to get to her appointments on time.)
Having spent her teenage days in the streets of Manila, she had always been accustomed to dressing casually, in pieces that would allow her to be comfortable—whether she is commuting on a jeepney or just hanging out a friend's house.
"Pero minsan naman, gusto ko rin mag-dress, pero huwag naman yung sobrang ikli na dress. Kasi minsan, gusto ko naman feeling Cinderella, mga ganun," Angeline says about wearing more elegant outfits.
Especially now that she is touted as the next singing superstar, Angeline definitely has to up her style and public image.
"Pero kapag lalabas po ako, magsisimba or magpupunta ng mall, gusto ko yung medyo T-shirt lang na puti tapos flats [shoes] lang po."
PRECIOUS GIFTS. Among Angeline's prized fashion possessions are two jewelry items from celebrity friends.
One is from her mentor Regine Velasquez who hosted Star For A Night in 2003, the first singing contest on television that Angeline took part in.
At that time, she and ten other contestants lost the battle to pop princess Sarah Geronimo.
Prior to Angeline's Patuloy Ang Pangarap concert, she and the Asia's Songbird rehearsed for their duet at Regine and husband Ogie Alcasid's home.
There, Regine gave her a pair of diamond earrings encrusted in 18-karat white gold.
Angeline says, "18K nakalagay, e. Hindi ko po alam [ang brand] kasi nung binigay naman sa akin yun ni Miss Reg, ano lang, diretso lang na hawak niya na 'Angeline, o, para sa'yo.
"Pero ano, maganda kasi talaga yung hikaw. Parang ngayon lang ako nakakita ng tatlong bato na magkakasama."
Besides the monetary value, Angeline considers the earrings as a valued possession because it symbolizes her mother-daughter bond with her singing idol.
Regine Velasquez has said during the concert that she sees Angeline as a daughter, having gone through the same hardships in life before finally achieving that success she's always dreamed of.
The second item is from Angeline's ultimate showbiz crush Coco Martin.
The actor surprised her by appearing unannounced at concert, toting a bouquet of flowers as he breezed through the crowd while Angeline sang the song "Kunin Mo Na Ang Lahat Sa Akin" which was featured in Coco's former show Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin.
After giving Angeline his message, he whipped out a silver cross necklace which he gave as a gift of lasting friendship to the singer.
Angeline says of the necklace, "Brand yata ng ano 'to, e, pagmamahal," she quipped.
"Hindi ko po alam pero itong kuwintas na 'to, dalawa yung chain niya isang gold saka isang silver, two-tone shade po siya."
Almost everyday, Angeline wears the necklace—keeping it close to her heart—perhaps symbolic of her admiration for Coco.
