Biggest Loser contestant Angela Lupangco on losing weight: "Kaya ko nang dalhin ang sarili ko."

"Noong umpisa mahirap kasi talagang wala akong experience sa workout, hindi ako nag-diet ever. 'Yon talaga, 360 degrees umikot 'yong mundo ko," Angela Lupangco, one of the Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Fab 5, says about her experience in the local adaptation of the American reality show.


Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition challenger Angela Lupangco now feels more confident after shedding off some pounds from her previous 223-pound frame.

The 26-year-old contestant does not consider herself as a shy person. She admits, however, "Mahiyain [due] to the fact na hindi ako confident sa hitsura ko."

This changed after the grueling four-month training and workouts inside the fitness camp.

"Ngayon, confident na!" she told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other media during the presentation of BLPE Fab 5 at Dolphy Theater inside ABS-CBN compound yesterday, September 20.

She looked at her sexy outfit and stated, "Nakakapagpakita na ako ng skin ngayon. Sobrang kaya ko nang dalhin ang sarili ko."

"Kaya ko nang pumunta sa mall.

"Before kasi, alam mo 'yon, nakatago 'yong mga plus sizes.

"Ngayon, kahit ano, kaya mo nang bilhin."

Angela is one of the Fab 5 of Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition. This group also includes Larry Martin, Art Mendoza, Hazel Chua, and Raffy Tan.

NOT AN EASY PROCESS. Losing those unwanted pounds and inches was not easy for Angela, especially during the first few days of the training period.

"Noong umpisa mahirap kasi talagang wala akong experience sa workout, hindi ako nag-diet ever," she admitted to PEP.

Then, she related, "'Yon talaga, 360 degrees umikot 'yong mundo ko.

"Hindi ako sanay sa lahat ng ginawa namin, 'yong first few weeks hanggang isang buwan."

Instead of thinking about this, Angela just focused on her main goal for joining the contest.

She said, "For me, hindi siya mahirap talaga kasi, pumasok ako ng camp na sobrang determined ako, na ito ang kailangang gawin ko.

"Kung pumasok ako sa camp na, 'Ay naku, mahihirapan ako,' doon siguro mahihirapan ka.

"Pero ako, isa ako sa mga talagang sobrang ni-ready ang sarili.

"Ni-ready ko, prinepare ko ang sarili ko para sa lahat ng challenges, ng hirap na gagawin namin sa loob."

Angela also mentioned that it only took a while before her body adapted to the strenuous activities inside the camp.

Angela said, "Eventually, nasanay na rin, e.

"Actually, kahit ngayon, hinahanap-hanap na ng katawan namin ngayon 'yong workout."

SUPPORTIVE HUSBAND. Angela's main reason for joining the contest was her desire to have a baby.

At the primer of the program prior to its regular airing, Angela said she needed to lose weight because she's having difficulty conceiving a child.

Now that she's much slimmer, are there already plans of having a baby?

"Of course, but not immediately," Angela answered.

She then related, "Kasi, sabi naman ng husband ko, 'Sige na nga, i-enjoy mo muna 'yang pinaghirapan mo.'

"Very thankful naman ako na he understands kung ano 'yong pinagdaanan ko sa loob ng camp."

In the BLPE episode last Monday, September 19, Angela's transformation was first witnessed by her family, especially her husband. He looked too stunned that he couldn't believe she was the same person.

"Nakanganga lang siya, nandoon lang siya sa gilid, 'Sino 'yon?'

The whole night noong ball, nakatitig lang siya.

"Hindi na niya ako makilala talaga.

"Sobrang natutuwa siya na hindi na niya alam kung ano ang mararamdaman.

"Kasi, parang sagad na sagad siya. Parang hindi niya ine-expect.

"Parang kami rin naman, hindi namin ine-expect na gano'n ang mararating namin.

"Hindi niya na-imagine na aabot ako ng ganito kalayo.

"Pero sobrang proud at sobrang supportive niya sa akin kung anuman ang narating ko."

NO WAY OF GOING BACK TO OLD WEIGHT. Angela is really satisfied with the result of her hard work inside the camp. So, she swears not to regain the lost weight again.

In fact, she remembered, the hardest challenge she faced inside the camp was when she and the remaining contestants were reminded of their original weight.

"For me, 'yong pinakahuli [ang mahirap], 'yong bitbit namin 'yong weight namin.

"Sobrang hirap kasi, imagine, binalik sa akin lahat ng mga nawala na sa akin, e.

"'Yon talaga ang pinakamahirap.

"'Yon din ang pinaka hindi ko makakalimutang challenge, kasi nga, pina-experience sa'yo ulit kung ano ka dati."

This also made her realize that it's hard to be like what she was before.

To continue the changes in her life, Angela decided not to go back to her previous work, which she considered as one of the culprits of gaining a lot of weight.

She told PEP, "Hindi na siguro IT. Doon kasi ako sobrang tumaba, e.

"Kasi, maghapon kang nakaupo lang, computer lang nang computer.

"Hindi ka naman naglalalakad din.

"Maghahanap siguro ako ng mga lakad-lakad na trabaho.

"Definitely, magche-change ako ng career path kasi ayaw ko nang balikan 'yong pinaghirapan kong katawan."

EAT, EXERCISE, AND REST. Before we ended our interview with Angela, we asked her for tips she could share to people who were inspired by their transformation.

First, she reminded us about the benefits of exercise.

"Kailangan at least once a day, kahit mga 30 minutes lang na workout.

"Hindi mo naman kailangang gawin lahat ng workouts na ginawa namin sa loob ng camp, e. Kasi, wala namang taong kayang gawin 'yon everyday.

"Siguro, kahit mga konting cardio.

"'Yong mga simpleng aakyat ka lang ng hagdan.

"Kung mag-e-elavator ka, maghagdan ka na lang.

"'Yong imbes na magta-tricycle ka o magta-taxi ka, kung kaya naman lakarin. Small activities like that."

Then, she stressed the importance of following a well-balanced diet.

"Sa food kasi, you can still eat everything naman, e. Pwede kang kumain nang kahit ano.

"Actually, kahit 'yong mga top model, sinasabi nila sa Oprah or sa Ellen [Degeneres Show], kumakain din naman siya pero not everyday. Siguro you can eat at least once a week.

"Kung kaya mo naman siya i-burn, kagaya ng sinabi ko nga kahit mga every other day, you can still eat.

"Huwag lang po talaga sobra. Lahat naman po talaga ng sobra, bawal.

Lastly, she pointed out one essential factor of losing weight, which was often taken for granted by most people, getting enough rest and sleep.

She said, "'Yon po talaga ang isa sa factors na nakatulong sa amin. Kailangan po at least eight hours, seven or six hours of sleep."
