On March 28, 2010 the Sunday before Holy Week, indefatigable comic Giselle Sanchez and charismatic balladeer Erik Santos performed for the Filipino community in Athens, the capital of Greece, in a show sponsored by ABS-CBN Global and Globe Telecom.
Erik arrived in Athens days ahead of Giselle, who made it there from Manila just in time for the show.
"Ngarag ang beauty ko," laughs Giselle. "Mga sixteen hours ang travel time from Manila to Qatar, stopover mga two hours, 'tapos Qatar to Athens, 'tapos show na!"
After the show, Erik—who had already done his sightseeing in Athens—decided to hie off to Santorini, a favorite tourist destination in Greece, consisting of a group of volcanic islands 200 kilometers away from the mainland.
Though Giselle had yet to see Athens in daylight, she had no choice but to join Erik and the rest of the show's entourage.
"Siyempre, nataranta na ako. 'Saka alangan namang matira ako sa Athens? So, [Holy] Monday to Wednesday, sa Santorini kami. Wednesday ng gabi, umuwi na ako pabalik ng Manila. Si Erik kasi, nag-backpack pa sa ibang parts ng Europe. Ako naman, by [Maundy] Thursday, nasa Tacloban na to join my family na doon nag-Holy-Week. So, Athens-Qatar-Manila-Tacloban. Hahaha! Sa Dio Island naman kami—'yong kina Kring-Kring Gonzales?"
