Award-winning actor Joem Bascon admitted that he had recently gained so much weight due to personal neglect.
He assured, however, that's he's raring to get back in shape and regain his hunky look—the same lean, defined physique that he sported when he was still a showbiz greenhorn.
"Balik tayo sa pagpapa-sexy ko before.
"Kasi, na lay-off ako for one year, na-criticize talaga ang weight ko ng grabe.
"Nag-bloat ako, naging manginginom.
"Wala, e, downtime lang talaga. May stage talaga na bababa ka, e," he related to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview recently.
The Nasaan Ka Elisa? actor said he was deeply affected by the negative feedback and harsh criticisms about the changes in his body.
But instead of dwelling on the negative, Joem tried to use such comments to push him to take action and get ripped once more.
He told PEP, "Hindi naman siya nakakainsulto, nakakatulong pa nga.
"Siyempre, kasi ang iisipin ko na lang 'yong sa ibang perspective, hindi 'yong parang inaasar lang ako.
Then, he recalled, "Siyempre, noon parang hangang-hanga kayo sa akin. 'Tapos nawala. Parang nakakahiya naman, 'di ba?
"Kumbaga, public figure ka 'tapos mataba ka, ano na ang mangyayari sa 'yo?
"So, might as well tumigil na lang ako ng pag-aartista and iba na lang ang gagawin ko kung gaganunin lang din ako."
The unwanted weight he gained also made Joem realize that he has to take care of himself to stay in the industry.
"Parang right now, if given the chance talaga na mabigyan ng work, sa dami naming artists, 'di ba?" the 25-year-old actor said.
"So, sabi ko, nakakahiya naman kung hindi ko ma-meet ang expectations ng friends, viewers, management kaya nag-decide na akong bumalik sa tamang landas."
He further stressed, "Ngayon, kailangan kong bumalik kasi may bago nga akong work."
Joem is part of the cast of the horror movie Aswang by Regal Films. He's also playing a supporting role in ABS-CBN's primetime TV series, Nasaan Ka Elisa?
Aside from acting jobs, the Star Magic talent proudly announced that his latest underwear billboard, which drew a few criticisms from onlookers, will soon be replaced with a better image of him.
