Who wouldn't want to be in Jinkee Pacquiao's shoes?
As her husband's net worth continues to soar with every hard-earned victory, the Pacquiao family seems consigned to a life of luxury that most Filipinos could only dream of.
With such a vast estate and millions of dollars at her disposal, it's way too easy to assume that Jinkee leads a charmed life.
With her ever-growing collection of Hermes bags and other signature brands, Pacman's wife eventually loomed larger than life as she became the latest toast of the celebrity circuit.
But the wife of the world-famous boxing champion said it's not easy being in her position, alluding to the spate of affairs and scandals that her husband has been dragged into these past years.
"Maraming pagsubok," she confessed.
Over time, she has learned the way to fight her own bouts.
"Basta, stay positive, yun lang... Wag mong masyadong kinikimkim yung problema, 'tapos di kinakalimutan mga prayers ko."
A SIMPLE LIFE. The saleslady from Saranggani has indeed come a long way. But despite the fame and glamour, Jinkee has never forgotten her humble past.
"Simple lang ang buhay nun. Mahirap pero masaya rin," she told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the launch of her endorsement, Belo Nutraceuticals.
Maria Geraldine Jamora (Jinkee's maiden name) came into Manny's life eleven years ago, when she was 20.
Recalling their first meeting, "Mabilis lang siya, e," she began.
"Nung nag-wo-work pa ko as beauty consultant ng a, a...hair product. Dun, dumaan lang siya, may binili. Then, actually, kasama ko yung uncle na trainer niya before, so pinakilala kami, yun."
Was it love at first sight?
"Di, e," she quickly replied. "Parang wala lang. 'Ay, si Manny.' [Sabi ko], 'Okay.'"
But Manny was persistent. Back then, he couldn't afford expensive things.
Nung time na naging kami, every day, sumusundo siya."
It didn't take long before she found herself falling for the father of her four kids.
"Nung naging kami, parang dire-diretso na lang yung mangyayari nung kami. And then, di ko naisip na ano kaya magiging future ko sa taong ito? Hindi ako nag-iisip ng ganun...parang minahal ko lang siya, and then nagpakasal, nagkaanak, yun lang.
"Simple lang talaga yung buhay, 'tapos biglang ganito."
THE 180-DEGREE TURN. But since Manny earned the Pambansang Kamao moniker, things had changed so drastically.
The "shy" Jinkee admitted to feeling overwhelmed in the beginning.
"Nagugulat ako minsan, 'Ay, puwedeng magpa-picture.' Akala nila suplada ako kasi minsan, siya [Manny] na lang. Pero, nahihiya ako."
But she realized, "Kailangan tanggapin yung pagbabago," which includes going to "medyo sosyal na lugar" and driving away the girls.
With regard to the former, "Hanggang ngayon, nani-nerbiyos pa rin ako pag sila mga kaharap ko."
And as for the latter, "Nakakaiyak."
Instead of constantly taking the backseat and feeling sorry for herself, one day, she made her choice to "look good and feel good."
Kailangan magpaganda, 'tsaka yun, kailangan na may make-up. 'Okay pala si Jinkee, maganda pala.'"
How about shopping?
JINKEE'S FIGHTING STRATEGIES. Her husband's goal is to defend his title. For her part: To protect her marriage.
Manny has been winning.
Yesterday, November 13, he successfully defended his Welterweight belt against Juan Manuel Marquez.
Jinkee has been winning as well.
Despite the controversies she's been through, she is still with her husband. And after the fight, it was her face that appeared on the screen more than twice.
Her fighting strategy number one: "Relax lang."
In a persuasive tone, she said, "Kailangan maging matapang sa lahat ng bagay. Kailangan yung Jinkee before, kailangan iba na sa Jinkee na.
Number two is, "Stay positive."
To elaborate, "Hindi mo masyadong intindihin yung mga pangyayari. Kung dati, umiyak lang ako...I learned to just love myself. 'Wag mong masyadong kinikimkim yung problema.
Number three is, "Di kinakalimutan mga prayers ko."
She added, "Kailangan hihingin mo sa Diyos kung ano ang kailangan mo that time. Kailangan peaceful ka, calm. Yun."
