Almost three years after launching his novel, Ricky Lee returns with another humorous work that tackles Philippine politics.

This time, he names his main character as Amapola, a gay impersonator and a manananggal who is destined to save the Philippines.

Si Amapola sa 65 na Kabanata will be launched on November 27, 2011, 3:00 p.m., at the Skydome, SM North Edsa.

Comediennes Ai-Ai delas Alas and Eugene Domingo will host the event.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR. Lee is the renowned screenwriter behind Himala (1982), Anak (2000), and Jose Rizal (1998).


Himala's latest citation was Viewers' Choice Award for CNN's Asia Pacific Screen Awards, beating Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and even the animated masterpiece of Hayao Miyazaki, Spirited Away.

He has over 160 produced movie scripts to his name with numerous awards, and has so far published a total of 8 books.

His first novel, Para Kay B (Kung Paano Dinevastate ng Pag-ibig ang 4 out of 5 sa Atin) has sold 30,000 copies in two years.

Trip To Quiapo, a scriptwriting manual, now serves as a textbook for Mass Communication courses across the country.

Si Tatang at ang mga Himala ng Ating Panahon, his classic collection of articles and short stories, has been a part of Filipino Literature studies.

Lee's other books include film and stage play scripts.

"I believe that Filipinos love to read, proof is the sales of my first novel. Someone just has to bring the books to the people, which was what I did and I am still doing. I do book tours, school tours and I accept talks and forums from Batangas to Bicol to Davao; anywhere there is an audience ready to listen and of course, to read, " says Lee.

The book launches of Lee have been a celebrated tradition in the literary and showbiz world. A-list stars such as Dingdong Dantes, Piolo Pascual, Eugene Domingo, Angel Aquino, Ogie Alcasid, as well as Cesar Montano, Gina Alajar, and Chanda Romero have given life to the lines of Lee's works in the past, under the direction of top directors like Marilou Diaz-Abaya and soon, Jerry Sineneng.

Literary luminaries such as Bien Lumbera, Pete Lacaba, Marra Lanot have been consistent attendees of the past events.

"Isang malaki at mahabang laser light na nanggagaling sa isang bar ang tumutudla paitaas sa akin habang lumilipad ako, parang sinasabing kumain ka, kumain ka ng tao! Umiwas ako. Nagulo ang wig ko kaya inayos ko. Nakalimutan kong me hawak pala akong krus. Nalaglag ito. Sa isang political rally sa ibaba sa may tapat ng ABS-CBN.

"Mula sa point of view ng mga tao, na karamihan ay naroroon at umaasang mabibigyan sila ng pera ng kandidato, ang nakikita siguro nila ay isang krus na mabilis na bumubulusok pababa. Saka bumagsak sa lupa. Sa gitna nila mismo."
