The final part of our PEP List featuring the hottest celebrity trends of 2011 puts focus on the stars' new favorite hobbies.
From the latest tech gadget to the newest health craze, these famous personalities enjoyed these five lifestyle fads off-cam.
TWITTER NEWBIES. For the past three years, Twitter has become a rich source of information about virtually anything under the sun.
That includes, of course, news about our favorite celebrities who have flocked to the social networking site as well.
On several occasions, celebrities' tweets have sparked controversies, such as the recent post from actress Valerie Concepcion, which caused trouble for President Noynoy Aquino. (CLICK HERE to read related article)
But despite the risks of getting embroiled in a scandal, the newbies readily joined the bandwagon.
Included among the celebs who appeared in Twitter this year: Regine Velasquez, Manny Pacquiao, Derek Ramsay, Jennylyn Mercado, Jake Cuenca, Angeline Quinto, Erik Santos, Ryan Bang, Chris Martinez, Aly Borromeo, Anton del Rosario, and Arnel Pineda.
iPAD2 ADDICTS. Apple founder Steve Jobs had the world weeping when he passed away on October 5, making it the biggest headline this year among the personalities who have left us.
But his legacy lives on in the hearts of millions of Apple gadget users worldwide—including some of our very own local stars.
While many of them already have their iPads from last year, they certainly did not miss upgrading to the new sleek lightweight model.
With a new video call feature called Facetime, the iPad2 has made it easier for celebrities to stay in touch with friends, even when they're filming in a remote location or doing shows out of town.
Also, there are more new applications available for almost every need—be it games or utilities—which celebs enjoyed using during their down time.
RUN, BABY, RUN! While the fitness craze became huge in 2010, it grew even bigger in 2011.
And with more and more celebrities becoming conscious about their health (and their figure, of course) many have turned to running for their basic cardio workout.
It is the simplest exercise one can do. Just pop on your running shoes, stretch and warm up a little, and then you're good to go.
But while some have enjoyed doing it in the comfort of a treadmill or at nearby running spots like UP or McKinley Hill, there are some who have taken the sport to a higher level.
From just a mere routine, several stars have made time to practice at least three times a week.
Some have even sought the help of professional running coaches to train them for their next major marathon.
CROSSFIT TRAINING. Fitness enthusiasts are constantly in search of the perfect workout regimen.
And one that matched the taste of many health-conscious celebs this year is Crossfit.
Originating from the US, this "elite fitness program," as described in the local practitioners' website, was brought to the country by athletes Ferdi Catabian, Matt Makalintal, and Miggy Dy Buncio.
The 30-minute workout consists of a set of exercises, like push-ups, squats, and kettle ball throws, all done in high intensity and in repetition.
Crossfit gives quick results in just a short span of time—absolutely perfect when exercise has to be squeezed into the busy schedules of these stars.
MEAT DODGERS. A busy working schedule is always the top reason given by celebrities who miss out on their workout sessions.
So to make up for lost time at the gym, they do their share by dieting.
There have been many fad diets emerging over the last decade, and in time, many have learned to take just the gist of these strict meal plans and create a routine that fits their taste and lifestyle.
Taking off from the South Beach Diet and the Cohen Diet, where cholesterol and fatty foods are eliminated, some celebs have chosen to just completely let go of meat—especially pork.
According to the website vegetarianworldfoods.com, consumption of pig meat can cause gallstones and obesity because of its high cholesterol and saturated fat contents.
It also "contains excessive quantities of histamine and imidazole compounds," which can cause arthritis, rheumatism, and other illnesses.
So whether it's an effort to stay in shape or for fear of getting sick, celebs are keeping their wellness in check as they know very well that health is wealth.
