When people think super models, they think petite frames, long necks, thin arms and legs.
Model Bubbles Paraiso dismantles that convention when she personally tells you, “I’m big-boned … malaki bones ko!”
In the recent press conference of GMA-7’s latest afternoon teleserye Kasalanan Bang Ibigin Ka?, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had a brief chat with Bubbles who plays one of the soap’s resident mean girls. She portrays the iniquitous Jenelyn, the ex-girlfriend of Geoffrey Eigenmann’s character.
Bubbles, clad in a bright pink tube dress that emphasized her tan, was a striking sight at noon. The shine of her toasted and toned shoulders, plus her small waist was very telling of her kind of exercise regimen.
The first obvious rule of fitness she keeps— squeezing in workouts in her crazed work schedule.
She continues to attend her Plana Forma class— a 55-minute power workout that combines yoga, pilates, and dance. She adds that she kicks ass at Muay Thai sessions and finds time to run.
“Actually, konti lang yung time ko ngayon to work out,” Bubbles relays. “If I need to run, [I run] either around the village [or] kung sa’n… kung sa’n ako abutan!”
While she cannot exactly say how many times a week she exercises, Bubbles mentions, “[I workout] as often as I can kasi even if I’m watching what I’m eating—”
In a split second she takes back that last bit, “—not naman sobrang watch what I’m eating, kasi kung makikita niyo yung tweets ko, puro pagkain pa rin!"
She tells in half giggles, “I still eat a lot, but lesser meals! Dati kasi mga six meals a day ako. So ngayon, three na lang talaga.”
What exactly comprises her diet? Pizza, sashimi, sushi.
She reveals a second fitness rule: not depriving herself of cravings.
She explains, “Because the thing is with me, if I’m craving for something, I really have to have it.
When Bubbles wants pizza, a favorite comfort food hers, she lets herself indulge in a slice or two. She knows that if she substitutes the food she craves for with a healthier choice, like a sandwich for instance, her body will still yearn for pizza. There'll be payback time if she ends up eating both the sandwich and slice of pizza.
“After kainin ko yung sandwich, yung katawan ko, hinahanap talaga yung pizza. Hindi ako titigil hanggang hindi ko nakakain yung pizza na yun, so madodoble-doble siya talaga!
“So, ako now, if I crave for something, I’m just going to eat it.”
She also eats whenever she wants. “Mga one AM, magigising ako, ‘Ay, nagugutom ako!’
“Pupunta ako sa isang place, magsa-sashimi lang ako saka sushi, tapos nun, uuwi na ako!”
“MASA”— MASANDAL TULOG. As part of the Professional Modeling Association of the Philippines, Bubbles is often seen in the metro’s hottest events and parties, all the more now that PMAP is celebrating its silver anniversary this year.
“We’re celebrating our 25th anniversary. So we have to be visible, especially with our sponsors,” Bubbles says.
To keep up with her fast-paced lifestyle, Bubbles observes a third fitness tip: power naps!
“Ang tawag nila sa akin, masa— masandal, tulog!”
She makes fun of her reply, “Once sumakay ako sa kotse, knock out na ako diyan! Or uupo ako sa couch, knock out na ako!
“Mahilig ako matulog in between [takes]. Sa set makikita mo, mauupo lang ako sa isang tabi, tulog na ako! Kahit monoblock lang siya, uupo ako, tulog na!”
This sleepyhead tries as much as she can to work out, nonetheless.
“Even if I feel sluggish, work out pa rin! Kailangan, e. Kasi si Tita Annabelle [Rama] gusto niya, siyempre, payat din kami.”
While she accepts her natural build, the 26-year-old socialite makes no excuse to miss out on being fit and fab, especially since she's in the modeling business.
“Mga kasama ko puro petite … If I’m alone, kung ako lang, mukha akong okay.
“Pero pag tinabi na ako sa iba, nagmumukha akong malaki. So, kailangan talaga, magpapayat.”
In Bubbles’s fitness book, owning one’s regimen is most important.
