Vice Ganda never runs out of jokes or punchlines whenever he appears in his daily noontime show It’s Showtime.
Likewise, on his weekend talk-show, Gandang Gabi Vice, he always spontaneously comes up with witty remarks about his guests. So witty, they become instant trending topics on Twitter.
The 36-year-old gay comedian honed his skill for smart/funny lines from his previous job as a stand-up comedian in comedy bars.
In these venues, Vice learned how to write and execute his stand-up spiels and gimmicks in front of a live audience nearly every night.
Although he has worked as a comedian for more than a decade now, the former comedy bar talent says he never gets tired of making people laugh.
“Physically, I’m tired kasi nga, every day, every day ako nagtatatrabaho, and nung isang araw nga, I worked 16 hours.
“Napapagod yung katawan ko, pero ayoko mapagod na magpatawa pa sana kasi, unang-una, maganda trabaho ko,” Vice said in a PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) interview with him recently.
Instead of thinking of this as a job, Vice likes to see it as his purpose in life.
“Feeling ko, this is my purpose in life.
NO NEED TO CHANGE STYLE. In his previous movie and television projects, Vice often incorporated sarcasm into his humor, which never failed to amuse his audience.
However, there are those who say that his audience may reach a saturation point, especially because Vice always goes before the public with this kind of comedy act.
But Vice thinks there’s no need to change his style just yet.
The Gandang Gabi Vice host said, “Wala talaga akong yung clear effort for reinvention, yung di sinasadya.
ON CONTROVERSIES. As Vice climbs up the fame ladder, he clearly faces more and more controversies.
Recently, he was reported to have had a misunderstanding with his It’s Showtime co-host Vhong Navarro, himself a funny/smart comedian.
“Sira ulo talaga yung nagbalita niyan!” Vice exclaimed.
Using vintage Vice language, he went on: “Kung sino nagbalita niyan, sira ulo ka. Wala kang kasiyahan sa katawan."
After denying the issue totally, Vice told the media that he has learned how to ignore baseless negative reports about him.
He added that his reaction to that news when he first heard it was: “Sabi ko, ano naman bago dun? E araw-araw silang may issue sa 'kin.”
Does this mean he is always prepared to face controversies?
Vice has long taught himself not to get affected by intrigues and brickbats thrown at him.
“TAON KO EVERY YEAR.” In the past couple of years, Vice did major projects that have made him a bigger star in show business today.
In 2010, he had his first major (and sold-out) concert at the Araneta Coliseum called May Nag-Text…Yung Totoo: Vice Ganda sa Araneta!
Last year, his movie The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin was declared the “highest grossing local movie of all time.”
Vice said he always conditions his mind that every year will be his year.
“Oo, taon ko every year!” he said, deliberately sounding confident for our ears.
“Hanggang buhay pa ako, ibig sabihin year ko yun.
Likewise, Vice said he never stops wishing for more blessings to come into his life.
Talking about himself, he said: “Marami pa namang kulang, di naman ako perpektong tao.
This year, Vice is set to do another first in his showbiz career, as he joins his friend Kris Aquino in the Metro Manila Film Festival entry called Sisteraka.
