“If you live in Quezon City, you must wake up early! If you don’t want flooding in Quezon City, you must wake up early!”
ABS-CBN Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) director Gina Lopez calls out to Quezon City residents to participate in this year’s “Run, Ride & Roll for the Pasig River” on Sunday, September 30.
The race will start and finish at the Quezon Memorial Circle.
Aside from the venue, ABS-CBN Foundation’s fourth advocacy event will not only feature running, but also cycling and skateboarding races.
“This is the first time we’re doing it in Quezon City. We want Quezon City residents to get involved,” Lopez further said during the final briefing for the event last Friday, September 21.
The annual Pasig River Run will happen in Quezon City because, according to Lopez, “We want to clean the rivers of Quezon City.”
Accumulated funds from this event will be used for the rehabilitations of the waterways in Quezon City, which are connected to the Pasig River.
Among these include the Marikina River, Meycauayan River, San Juan River, San Francisco Creek, and Tullahan River.
This move to clean the esteros in Quezon City is part of KBPIP’s seven-year rehabilitation program to clean the Pasig River.
SHOW YOUR SUPPORT. In the past Pasig River Run, different schools, non-government organizations, government, and private companies gave their support for this advocacy.
This year, the ABS-CBN Foundation hopes to get the same support from different sectors.
Kapamilya actors and sports enthusiasts Piolo Pascual and Matteo Guidicelli will participate in the event by leading the CEO River Warrior Run, which is closed to the public and is exclusive to business executives who are also donors of this fund-raising event.
Meanwhile, other ABS-CBN celebrities such as Kim Chiu, Maja Salvador, Xian Lim, and Maricar Reyes will take part in the 5K Morning Madness Run.
Interested runners, cyclists, and skateboarders can still join this event until September 29. Registration is ongoing at SM North EDSA, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, R.O.X. Chris Sports Festival Mall, and Chris Sports Glorietta.
Major categories include the 15K Ride & Roll for cyclists and skateboarders with 4:00 a.m. gunstart, the 15K Commonwealth Challenge Run with 4:10 a.m. gunstart, and the 5K Morning Madness Run with 6:00 a.m. gunstart.
KBPIP reminds the participants to bring their own reusable water containers as they will forego the disposable cups at water stations to promote environmental awareness and support the Quezon City local government’s mandate to regulate the use of plastic bags in store, markets, and other establishments.
