Joey de Leon, one of the four main hosts of Startalk, sports a green Beatles-designed Comme des Garcons top during the show's taping for the pre-anniversary episode.
He says, "Beatles at Beachboys kasama sa favorites ko, kaya nga Eat Bulaga, puro B, at Iskul Bukol."
Startalk celebrates 17 years on air this October 2012 and celebrates its 17th anniversary officially on October 21.
This landmark show has seen the likes of Kris Aquino, Boy Abunda, Dawn Zulueta, Rosanna Roces, to name a few, as hosts.
Of Lolit Solis, the show's only remaining original host, both Joey and columnist Ricky Lo have many things to say.
Joey quips, "Parang multo na lang 'yang si Lolit, e," because she has been around for so long.
But he says of her style: "Talagang diretso at loyalty medalist na 'yan."
Ricky agrees that Lolit is still around because "nag-reinvent na siya through the years."
Of Ricky, Joey says he is unlike "Lolit, kasi extremes 'yan. Yung isa maingay, si Ricky, seryoso, straight. Eto, alam nila mapagkakatiwalaan, mahinahon lang, sweet na host, magalang, cool, disente," while Butch Francisco, the second longest host of the show, is the balance found in between.
Joey isn't done talking about Manay Lolit, and he continues, "Si Lolit balahura! Kung si Ricky Lo, may mga edges, si Lolit diretso, nakakatakot 'yan! Style niya 'yan, pero accepted siya. Walang nagagalit, kung mayroon man, one out of one hundred."
Ricky says Joey is the life of the show, to which Joey responds, "Minsan naman, may seryoso akong tanong."
What part of the show do these hosts like?
Joey instantly responds, "Kaming mga host, ang mga inaabangan namin, yung Da Who, yung may yayariin sila, masaya yun."
What's the secret to Startalk's longevity on air?
Joey mulls this over for a few seconds. "Lahat ng tsismis shows nagtatagal, depende na lang... Yung iba kasi, parang di sila magkakaibigan, kaya parang di masaya yung tsika, yung tsismisan."
He believes that the life of the showbiz show is in the fact that, "yung parang nagbibiruan lang kayo, kapag seryoso ang approach, parang hindi tatagal."
He does clarify that "biruan na hindi nakakasakit" is important.
Ricky nods in agreement and says Startalk has added value: "Yung may humor, at kapag si Joey nag-interview, kahit mabigat ang topic, light ang dating."
Both hosts also agree that it's important to brief the celebrity beforehand, to gauge how he/she would respond to the questions.
Joey recalls in his hosting job on Startalk: "Minsan may mga artista ayaw sumagot, minsan may naganun na ako, e. Di ko na lang babanggitin kung sino. Naisip ko, bakit nag-guest ka pa?"
Ricky, who has interviewed local and international celebrities, shares his two cents worth, "Yung importante, you don't put the guest on the spot, kapag 'andiyan na tapos tatanungin mo ng hindi dapat. Kasi baka next time imbitahin mo, di na pupunta, irespeto mo na lang."
Joey adds, "Dinadaan ko sa biro para 'at home' yung artista."
