Senator Kiko Pangilinan and Sharon Cuneta hold “big celebration” for 3rd birthday and dedication of son Miguel

Since Miguel (right) came into their life, the Pangilinan household— according to Sharon Cuneta (second from left)— has gotten "sobrang saya." Senator Kiko Pangilinan (holding Miguel), added, "I'm also grateful that the three girls (including KC Concepcion, who's presently abroad) love their brother... Mali-cute lang pero mabait."

He belongs to a famous family, but in their household, Miguel Samuel Mateo is the star!

So on his third birthday, his parents—Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan and megastar Sharon Cuneta—decided to host a “big celebration,” as Kiko himself put it, at the Blue Leaf Events Pavilion, Park Avenue, Mc Kinley Hill, in Taguig City.

More than 200 guests were invited to a Thomas and Friends-themed party, which had kiosks giving away free Frappuccino from Starbucks, milk tea from Happy Lemon, yogurt from Red Mango, gummy bears and candies from Candy Corner, plus ice cream, nachos, popcorn, fish ball, kikiam, fries, and other finger foods.

Two columns of buffet tables were also prepared—one for kids and another one for adults. The latter served about 10 main dishes, which were personally approved by Sharon.

MEET OUR SON. It’s a day that Sharon had been waiting for.

October 27 was not just the actual birthday of Miguel, but also the perfect time to announce that “he’s now legally a Cuneta Pangilinan.”

Sharon remarked, “Inimbitahan ko yung mga kaibigan ko sa press dahil kami nag-agree, para makita niya paglaki niya, na talagang ipinagmamalaki namin siya, at saka, we love him very much.

"We’re so proud to be his parents, and we’re so proud of him.”

The processing of the kid’s adoption papers “went through the normal, usual, no VIP treatment,” said Sharon.

“One year old, two years old, gusto na namin siyang ipakilala sa inyong lahat tapos… Gusto na namin siyang ipakilala sa inyong lahat, parang, ang feeling namin, kelangan yung talagang papeles, ayos na.”

It took more than two years before the multi-awarded actress could say, “This is my son.”

MEET MIGUEL. According to the senator, his only boy is “medyo pilyo, medyo minsan matigas ang ulo,” but he’s also “masunurin and mabait.”

Smiling, Kiko added, "Kahit anong ingat namin, isang buwan, tatlong beses pumuputok ang labi, e. Lalaki talaga ‘to!”

For her part, Sharon said, “He’s such a joy in the house! Yung buhay na buhay yung bahay namin with him…

“‘Tapos yung mga ate niya, patay na patay sa kanya.

“So, sabi namin, siguro if we had adopted a girl, it’s gonna be a different story. Pero, since boy, sobrang nag-aagawan sila.”

From time to time, Miel—who is five years older than the birthday boy—would feel what Kiko describes as “normal and natural na selos.”

But more often, “mas excited sila at natutuwa sila, parang meron silang bagong laruan. Talagang nagkakasundo naman sila.”

Agreeing to what his wife said, the 49-year-old politician said, “Siguro iba kung babae, baka nagkaroon ng selos, e. Yun na nga, lalaking dumating so, perfect.”

MEET THE NINONGS AND NINANGS. The dedication also happened on that day.

Sharon was thinking it would probably be the “last,” so “pakyawan na!”

As a result, there were so many ninongs and ninangs.

Among them were Manny and Jinkee Pacquiao (who didn’t make it because of a Los Angeles, USA, trip), Ryan and Judy Ann Agoncillo, Louie Ocampo, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, Senator Serg Osmena, Senator TG Guingona, Secretary Neric Acosta, Secretary Butch Abad, to name a few.

The Kapatid star also explained. “Sabi namin, lubusin na natin. E, we’ve never asked people to be ninongs, ninangs to any of our children kung hindi sila yung mahalaga sa amin for one reason or another.

“Hindi yung basta sikat, porke ganyan, hindi…

“Ngayon, talagang masasabi ko, I have lost count of how many ninongs ang how many ninangs.”

ANOTHER BABY SOON? She said yes; he shook his head.

Sharon threw in, “Malaki na yun,” referring to the “pension.”

But her husband still said no, “Kasi, we want to make sure lahat sila binigyan natin ng 110 percent time and attention.”

With that, the wife dropped the subject.

In jest, she added, “Unless maloko ko siya… One day, I will stop my [pills], magugulat ka na lang, ‘Oh you got me pregnant again!’”

Back to the celebrator, here’s his mama’s birthday message:

“My wish for you, my darling baby boy, is that sana you grow up to be like your dad— God-fearing, loves his family, his dad, his mom, his brothers and sisters, and of course, his wife and his children very much.

“He loves you very much. And we love you. Both love you. All of us love you so much, and we’re so proud to have you as, you know, the only boy in our family.

“And I don’t know but, sabi ko nga, maybe you are why God didn’t really give me a son to deliver, kasi you were coming.”

Other personalities who made time for the party— Senator Tito Sotto with wife Helen Gamboa and three children Romina, Diorella, and Gian, minus Ciara; Anthony and Maricel Pangilinan with their kids; Angeli Valenciano and son Paolo, who came with his fiancée; plus, Mommy Elaine Cuneta, Mommy Carol Santos, and QC Mayor Herbert Bautista.
