In an effort to provide better service to more Filipinos in provincial areas, GMA-7 recently launched its newest regional network base in Cagayan de Oro City.
Aptly called GMA Northern Mindanao, it covers the areas of Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental and Occidental, Camiguin, parts of Southern Bohol, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Compostella Valley, North and South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Agusan del Norte and Sur, Surigao del Norte and Sur, Zamboanga del Sur, and Maguindanao.
The network’s temporary base— located within the city center of Cagayan de Oro, not far from the major mall areas— was formally inaugurated on the afternoon of January 23, 2013.
An intimate ceremony, which involved blessing of the station, ceremonial ribbon cutting, dragon dance number, and press conference, marked the launching.
Kapuso stars Bela Padilla, Frencheska Farr, and Mark Herras lent star attraction to the occasion, and met the regional station’s staff and a few fans.
Bela was tasked to host the program, while Frencheska and Mark provided entertainment.
At the helm of things was Ms. Rikki Escudero, GMA-7's vice president for regional TV and head of expansion and production services of news and current affairs.
She simply could not contain her excitement about the station's newest “baby” down south.
In her short speech, she cited the fact that GMA chose to build its Northern Mindanao station “in no less than the City of Golden Friendship”— Cagayan de Oro City.
“It is in the true spirit of friendship that we open GMA Northern Mindanao.
“We offer the Kapuso brand of 'Serbisyong Totoo,'” she added.
The network currently broadcasts on Channel 35 in Cagayan de Oro, Channel 12 in Bukidnon, Channel 5 in Ozamiz, Channel 3 in Pagadian, and Channel 4 in Dipolog.
Their first local news program, Testigo, will begin airing on February 5.
It will be part of the late afternoon block, airing between the Barbie Forteza-starrer Paroa, and Forever, which stars Heart Evangelista, Geoff Eigenmann, and Gloria Romero.
