It’s been a whirlwind weekend for Hollywood actor Liam Hemsworth, who flew in to Manila on March 15.
Upon arrival, the actor, who starred in the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games, dove right away into a series of interviews with the media.
Just three hours after landing, he was already facing a crowd of Filipino press and some fans, at a conference held at the Rigodon Ballroom of the Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati.
LIAM TALKS STYLE. Liam is currently taking a break from filming the upcoming movie sequel Catching Fire, and he is using this sweet time to promote his partnership with local fashion brand Bench.
It’s been a year since Liam signed on to become one of the brand’s global ambassadors.
The decision the join the group— which also includes the likes of Maroon 5's Adam Levine and American Idol runner-up Jessica Sanchez— really wasn’t much of a rocket science, says Liam.
“I became part of it about a year ago and, you know, I think their stuff is great.
“My style is pretty simple and pretty casual, and their stuff is simple and casual.
“And yet, it has a kind of a creative flair on it, and new... kind of different kinds of looks, which I like.”
Growing up under the sun and surf of Phillip Island, Australia, Liam says his daily uniform include “wetsuits and jeans and flip flops”— three simple pieces that say much about his "pro-comfort" personality, stylewise.
So, when it comes to dressing for red carpet events, he ends up relying on his stylist, whom he calls as Paris, to show him what to wear.
Fashion, he adds, is “Completely out of my depth.”
Shooting for his summer-themed ad campaign, Liam got to try different outfits from the brand’s hefty rack.
Which item did he like the most?
“The jeans. The jeans are great. I'm wearing one right now and they fit me really well.
“I feel like jeans, for me, are the hardest things. I mean, they're easiest to wear the most, but I think it's hard to find a really good pair.”
LIAM AND THE LION. One of the concepts of the photo shoot was for Liam to be photographed beside a real African lion.
He tells his experience about working with his new wild animal buddy, Felix:
“He was next to me the whole day, and the only thing that trainor kinda said to everyone is, ‘Don't hide from him,’ because I guess it makes him uncomfortable when people are trying to hide.
“But they were feeding him big chunks of beef all day and it was pretty incredible.”
CORNUCOPIA. During the conference a Hunger Games fanatic, through emcee Raymond Gutierrez, was able to ask Liam this question:
“If Bench were the Cornucopia, which item would you take with you into the Hunger Games?”
For those who haven’t read the book or seen the film, the Cornucopia is some sort of tent where players of the Hunger Games (known as Tributes) can take items— ranging from food to weapons— that might be useful to them in battle.
Liam made this wise choice: “Probably a tough pair of shoes.
"That would be important [because there's] a lot of running in there.”
STYLE ADVICE. Emphasizing on his liking for simple and casual looks, Liam also has this to say to boys who are trying to find their own style:
"I think [clothes] says a lot about your identity, whatever you're comfortable in.
"I think wear what makes you feel comfortable, confident.
“Wear what makes you feel confident, what gives you confidence, what gives you what you think your identity is, what you feel confortable in.
“Less is more and keep it simple.”
