Summer was just made even hotter by the stars who attended the country's first non-stop music festival.
The CloseUp Summer Solstice 2013, held at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds on April 27, is now being dubbed the Filipino version of the famous Coachella Music Festival.
CELEBRITY EVENT. The marriage of liberating music and fashion— the theme of Coachella— was certainly embodied by the stars who graced the event.
Among them were sexy showbiz celebrities Juliana Palermo and Bianca Manalo, who donned swimsuits and very short shorts.
The same vibe was picked up by other celebrity concert goers: Janine Tugonon, Julia Barretto, Divine Lee, Michelle Madrigal, Carla Humphries, Laureen Uy, Andi Manzano, and Carla Dunareanu— who bared their bellies, wore flower crowns, cropped tops, and fashion-statement accessories.
Even the guys partied hard in their cool summer casuals— Rocco Nacino, Enzo Pineda, Victor Basa, Steven Silva, Sef Cadayona, radio DJ Sam YG, and Phil and James Younghusband.

PINOY AND FOREIGN ACTS. Aside from the union of fashion and music, it also became a night for celebrating Pinoy talent as local acts like Yael Yuzon of Spongecola, Urbandub, and Raimund Marasigan of Sandwich took the stage at the beginning of the 12-hour party.
But the highlight of the show was the medley of international acts performing the new Electronic Dance Music or EDM trend in mainstream music.
Afrojack, the Dutch DJ who ranked 7th in the Top 100 DJs of 2012 list published by British monthly DJ Magazine, was the biggest foreign act at the event.
He performed one of hi current hits titled "Titanium."
He was joined by other music acts, such as DJs Alex Gaudino, Apster, Jump Smokers, and Cedric Gervais; house singer Dev; and electropop band Cobra Starship.
All foreign performers have hit singles or records under their belts and instantly connected with the crowd.
Considering that it was a really hot summer night, the audience managed to dance, fist-pump, and jump up and down throughout the performances.
As a sidelight, the Summer Solstice event also featured activities like reverse bungee jumping, bounce run, photo booths, and game booths for those wandering around the venue.
The performers themselves were spotted enjoying these side activities: Dev, Cedric Gervais, and members of Jump Smokers, Cobra Starship, and Apster.
ANNUAL AFFAIR. Banking on the success of their previous big events, like the Lovapalooza on Valentines Day, brand manager John Imperial hints that the Summer Solstice concert may be back again next year.
“CloseUp has always taken pride in its musical heritage, with iconic songs that have touched the hearts of numerous generations, and with record-breaking events such as Lovapalooza.
"This year’s cutting-edge new adventure, something that has never been done before, creates an avenue for people to get even closer."
If so, it will be another major event to look forward to in the coming summers.
