Just like Phil Younghusband, James Younghusband is equally popular but he's the shy brother. James revealed, though, that he is highly satisfied with his current career and lovelife.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) recently caught up with the two popular members of the Azkals, the country’s football team, in a cover shoot for the upcoming issue of a health and fitness magazine.
We got to talk to James and asked him about staying fit, about football, about brother Phil and of course, the new love of his life, which he was very happy to talk about.
FIT BODY. If people who are into fitness are quite conscious of what they eat, James suggests that they be more lenient with food cravings— as long as the calories are burned through exercise afterwards and eating is done in moderation.
He advises, “Don’t be too cautious of what you eat. Don’t be too strict with yourself. It’s always good to have a bit of cheat now and then to have a little bit of carbohydrates or sugar, especially when being a sports person.
James continues, “I think it’s a big advantage when you’re a sports person. When you’re done [exercising], you get to eat what you want after because you need the calories back. Just look after yourself.
“Don’t go too overboard, don’t be too strict on yourself, because I think that’s unhealthy. But just be wise with what you eat and how you treat your body.”
TIME FOR LOVE. Last February 2012, at a press conference of a multivitamins brand that he and his brother were endorsing, the older Younghusband revealed that he recently broke up with his then long-time girlfriend, Fiona Faulkner.
Five months after, James got into a relationship with fashion designer Sari Lazaro.
When asked about the status of his lovelife, James took pride in saying, “At the moment, everything is going well for me, on and off the field.
“I’ve got a great girlfriend, she’s very supportive; she’s always there in all my games and always supportive. So everything’s all good and no complaints in my life at the moment.”
James said he learns a lot from Sari who's very caring. “She likes to just stay at home and just cuddle and watch TV, so she’s a great girl and she’s been a great influence in my life.”
“We met after the challenge cup last year and we met through friends,” relates James, referring to the March 2012 AFC Challenge Cup in Nepal.
When prodded on how he plans to celebrate their anniversary, James responds, “I hope I haven’t got a game and I hope to be in the country. I haven’t really done anything special for her, so I might have to surprise her.”
NO WEDDING BELLS YET. As for wedding plans, the football star clarifies that it is not happening anytime soon.
“We both have careers and goals that we want to achieve in our own careers, so we're focused on that,” James says.
He let out a laugh when teased about who between him and brother Phil would get married first. Phil recently celebrated his first anniversary with girlfriend Angel Locsin.
“Di ko alam. You have to ask him about that.
“I think Phil found the right girl. I think he’s very happy. I believe he is very happy and I’m sure they’ll look good together.”
Though they are very close, James says that he and Phil try to give each other privacy and space when it comes to their respective relationships.
James says about Phil, “He’s very secretive and I did know what he did for his and Angel’s anniversary.
“He doesn’t share much with me but we just talk, we talk a little bit about lovelife, but we have many talks about sports, about football and politics.”
What James is certain about is that his younger brother is very happy with Angel.
“Things they’ve been together for a long time, they haven’t rushed. They took their time, talked to know each other. You should treasure the moment with each other.
“I think that’s what Phil and Angel have, great chemistry. And they took their time to know each other and I think that’s what couples should do.”
