The search is on for the man who epitomizes the Modern Filipino Gentleman.

Leather brand McJIM has launched The 2013 Elan Awards: The Search for the Modern Filipino Gentleman.

The finalists of the award were announced yesterday, June 17 at Sequioa Hotel, Timog, Quezon City.

Judges of the search for the “ultimate man’s man” consist of guys who know this crowd of bachelors well enough: Tim Yap, Victor Basa, and Sam YG.

Three main criteria were the basis for choosing the finalists: Elegance of Style, Manners and Etiquette, and Accomplishment.

The top 12 finalists narrowed down by the judges from a longer list of nominees are as follows:

  1. Senator-elect Sonny Angara
  2. Christian Bautista
  3. Dingdong Dantes
  4. Erwan Heussaff
  5. Xian Lim
  6. Coco Martin
  7. Piolo Pascual
  8. Richard Poon
  9. Derek Ramsay
  10. Jericho Rosales
  11. Chris Tiu
  12. Phil Youghusband

McJIM Classic Leather says about the recognition, “We established the Elan Awards to define and showcase the modern Filipino gentleman as someone who is proudly and truly Pinoy.

“As Filipinos, we should stop imitating and aspiring for foreign cultures. We are our own and we are as good as anyone else in the world. We should be proud of who we are and what we do as Filipinos.

“Each of these 12 Elan Awards finalists is a role model for us to be successful, stylish and elegant in our manner of dress, grooming, accomplishments, etiquette, and overall lifestyle—and they are all distinctly and proudly Filipino.

“The Elan Awards are here to inspire more Filipinos to blend a sense of style, gentlemanly manners and values, and the drive to succeed.”

PROCEDURE. The long list of candidates was chosen by the public through a nomination on the brand’s official Facebook page.

To qualify, the nominees should meet the following requirements: 1) Must have Filipino lineage; 2) Must be 23 to 40 years of age on the start of the search on May 1, 2013.

The judges then ranked their top contenders and came up with the names of the 12 finalists.

Voting is now open on McJIM Classic Leather’s Official Facebook fanpage from June 17 to August 2, 2013.

Facebook users may vote for one to three individuals for the three separate criteria (Elegance of Style, Manners and Etiquette, and Accomplishment).

The finalist with the most number of votes will be proclaimed Grand Winner of the 2013 Elan Awards.

The Grand Winner of the 2013 Elan Awards will receive a prestigious designer trophy; P100, 000 in cash; another P100, 000 to be given to a charity of his choice; and one-year supply of McJIM products.
