Alex Gonzaga and Robi Domingo talked about the importance of style and their fashion staples.

Doing segment host duties in The Voice of the Philippines ain't the only thing shared by Alex Gonzaga and Robi Domingo these days.

They also bask under the same spotlight as the newest celebrity ambassadors of Surplus, formerly known as the Surplus Shop.

At the blessing of the company's newly renovated store in SM Megamall, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had the chance to talk to Alex and Robi about their personal styles.

IMPORTANCE OF STYLE. Every celebrity is expected to look their best all the time, whether on or off camera. But just how important is style for these two celebrity hosts?

Alex instantly answered, “Style is very important.”

She continued by explaining that it is must, “Kasi siyempre alam niyo naman kami as artista, parang the way you look siyempre it’s how you present yourself.

“Kung paano mo ipapakita sa tao kung anong klase yung personality mo, the way you dress yung style mo very important talaga.”

While Robi said that it’s not just about style, it’s about feeling good and confident about it, “Ako it’s much more than styling yourself, e.

“You know fashion brings a great deal when it comes to confidence, when you look good, you feel good and you perform better.

“Kaya yun yung importante ‘di ba?”

DOES BRAND MATTER? Nowadays, people have become more experimental with clothes. Everyone wants to join the fad and be on trend all the time.

But what sets girls apart from boys, in terms of shopping for fashion, is that girls are usually after the quantity while boys look for quality.

Robi is a testament that most men like to "invest" in good quality product from a rather pricey brand.

“Ako it’s all about the quality, I guess. If it is branded ibig sabihin mas matibay.

“I would go for those brands which are really pricey pero yung quality na hinahanap ko."

Alex, on the other hand, said that brand is not all that important.

“I don’t think brand is important. Ang important is how you carry it and paano yung fit sa’yo ng damit. That’s really important.

“And then kung paano mo sila i-mix and match, so puwede mo sila ulitin, another look sila, another style sila na hindi mapapansin ng ibang tao.”

But the two agreed that their new favorite store offers great deals and that would suit every fashionistas needs and wants.

Robi said, “The great thing about Surplus is yung quality nandun na, yung price trimmed down pa, so saan ka pa pupunta ‘di ba?”

“Kaya nga sobrang sarap dito sa Surplus kasi kailangan talaga, lalo na dun sa mga mahilig magshopping, great finds; so kailangan talaga maghahanap ka, tapos ang dami mong makikita and then mix and match mo,” says Alex.

FASHION STAPLES. Every person has a "comfort zone," even when it comes to clothing. So when they are not in front of the camera, how do Robi and Alex tend to dress up?

The pretty younger sister of Toni Gonzaga usually goes for a casual and comfortable look.

She said she likes sporting plaid polos and jeans, “Polo lang ako and jeans... and jacket.”

While Robi sticks to a much laid back and comfortable outfit, “Jeans shirt and a hoodie. Always ‘yon. Hindi ko puwedeng hindi suot every single day.

"Kasi yun ang pinaka importante [for me], yung outfit na pinaka kumportable ako, e.”

Do they have a signature style?

“Ako may hat and scarf. Ako siguro yung pinaka distinguished look ko is jeans and polo and scarf.

“Yun lang kasi yun yung pag off cam kasi mas kumportable, puwede siyang rugged, puwede siyang formal at the same time hindi siya masiyadong flashy,” says Alex.

And as for Robi, “When it comes to shirts, polos, pants I would always go for the dark ones.

“Yun lang yung madi-distinguish sa akin. Dark red, dark green, dark blue, grey.”
