RESTO REVIEW: What’s cooking at 26th St. Bistro?

The 26th St. Bistro of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf franchise is not your ordinary coffee and tea drinks shop. This flagship bistro by the popular coffeeshop brand takes “coffee experience” to a whole new level.

A different kind of “coffee experience” is being offered at 26th St. Bistro by The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) group because there's more than just coffee and tea.

26thSt. Bistro—the flagship branch of CBTL—is located at the corner of 26th St. and 5th Avenue in Bonifacio Global City.

Apart from its signature hot and cold drinks, the Bistro boasts a wide range of meals and drinks, including beer and wine, to satisfy the gastronomic cravings of food lovers.

“We wanted to have our own menu, so our international franchisor allowed us to come up with our own concept,” said Jay Ong, Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and Project Development of CBTL Philippines.

He added, “Most people are surprised when they come here because they think it’s just a big Coffee Bean, di ba?”

Some members of the press were invited to the Bistro on September 3, Tuesday, for a taste of their food specialties.

Here are the taste-test dishes we enjoyed:

Wild Mushroom Soup. This has three kinds of mushrooms: button, shiitake, and Portobello. The soup is thick, rich and really filling, although it might be an acquired taste for someone who is not into mushrooms. P225

Smoked Salmon and Dill Cream Cheese Bagel. The soft, tender meat of the salmon melts in the mouth. The fish meat seasoned with dill cream cheese, capers, and red onion vinaigrette in the bagel make a perfect combination. P315

Apple Crumble a la Mode. This creamy dessert comes with chunks of apple mixed with cinnamon and topped with vanilla ice cream. It's just-right sweet. P235

Note: These photos are just the food-taste portions that were served to the press. On a real pig-out, the size of the dishes would vary, of course.
