Tom Rodriguez on his bout with dengue a few weeks before the Cosmo Bachelor Bash 2013: "Nag-undergo ako ng dengue diet. Yun ang magandang diet," he quips.

“Nag-undergo ako ng dengue diet,” quipped Tom Rodriguez when asked how he prepared for the Cosmo Bachelor Bash 2013 held at the World Trade Center last September 23.

Around three weeks ago, the Cosmo September cover boy posted on Twitter that he was diagnosed with dengue and upper respiratory tract infection.

Good thing he recovered fast in time for the much-anticipated men's fashion show.

BOUT WITH DENGUE. Tom added, it was just his luck to get sick when he could have prepared a fitter physique for the runway.

Yun ang magandang diet,” he joked in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

He felt bad that all his weight-lifting exercises before he got sick went to waste.

“Ever since My Husband’s Lover started, nakatsamba ako na araw-araw may work.

CHAKO EXHIBITION. Despite his lack of preparation, the 25-year-old hunk was one of the most applauded celebrities at the Cosmo event.

Little did the audience know that he was feeling really nervous that night.

Lagi, before ako mag-perform, may gawin man akong trabaho, grabe yung tibok ng puso ko.

He showcased his mixed martial arts expertise by shuffling a chako while strutting his stuff on the ramp.

“Yun ang pinaka-challenging na part sa pagrarampa. Yung may kanya-kanyang gimik. Wala talaga akong maisip. Last minute na.

PRIMETIME LEADING MAN. Tom's runway act and his popularity as Vincent in the top-rating teleserye My Husband’s Lover made him a big hit at the Cosmo Bachelor Bash 2013.

The former Pinoy Big Brother Double Up housemate agreed that his current soap was what catapulted him to stardom.

Kaya they have my gratitude.”

Nowadays, Tom said that his work schedule has become so hectic he rarely has days off.

But he sure knows how to keep himself entertained in between takes on the set.

“Pinagtatawanan ako nila Direk Dominic [Zapata] at Dennis [Trillo]. Yung mga ginagawa ko usually kapag wala akong trabaho or umuuwi ako ng bahay, hindi ko na magawa kasi wala akong masyadong time. So, sa set ko na dinadala.”

Tom stressed though that he’d rather be busy because it means he’s blessed with lots of projects.

Aside from his teleserye, Tom is looking forward to My Husband’s Lover concert at the Araneta Coliseum on October 12 and an upcoming movie with TV co-star Carla Abellana.
