Tutti Caringal (middle) of 6 Cycle Mind tells PEP his band’s fashion requirements: “Magandang tingnan sa stage, kumportable kami, confident kami pag lumalabas sa tao.”

Think rock stars and the usual images that come out flashing are the night-till-dawn parties and drinking sprees.

Not for most members of 6 Cycle Mind.

Rye Sarmiento (rhythm guitar), Bob Cañamo (bass guitar), Herbert Hernandez (lead guitar) and Vic Aquino (drums) are early risers: “Gigising nang maaga para mag-exercise.”

Tutti Caringal (vocalist), on the other hand, spends “two hours” in the gym “almost every day.”

He has “six-pack abs,” according to the band’s manager Darwin Hernandez.

Yup, “clean living” rock stars are what they are.

“Pero hindi naman ako magiging ipokrito. Once in a while, we drink," the front man interjected. Kumbaga, kailangan din naming pumarty, di ba.

“Hindi naman puwedeng puro trabaho lang. There are fun times, but may mga times talagang work is work.

“Pero drinking is in moderation.”

But generally their all-nighters are spent working. Tutti said, “Night kami mag-work, so umaga na kami umuwi. We try to get some sleep at bumawi talaga ng tulog.”

"Being a musician is not all about talent," he added, “importante rin yung nasa kundisyon yung mga katawan namin.”

In an exclusive interview last October 1 at the Get Loud event, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked about the common notion that most band members are babaero.

“Hindi naman ganun,” Tutti said, before quipping, “Kasama ‘yon, you know… kasama yun sa tsismis. Pero kami, I don’t think mag-a-apply sa amin, masyado na kaming busy para diyan.”

Is he single?

“Wala. Let’s just say I’m happy sa career ko…with sa love.” Tutti replied.

The rest of 6 Cycle Mind teased. “Si Daniel Padilla, e, di ba, inagaw niya…”

He nodded when we asked, “Crush mo si Kathryn Bernardo?”

Smiling, he resumed, “Marami akong prospect ngayon, e. Marami akong nakikilalang bago.

“Basta we’re all happy. Hindi namin masyadong pinag-uusapan yung lovelife or whatever. Naka-focus kami sa music namin.”

Speaking of career, their album Good By Sunday is on to its third single.

The music video is presently under “creative process, and they’re looking for a leading lady.

Tutti said, “Baka may kilala ka, Twitter namin is @6cyclemind, Facebook fan page is ganun din, 6cyclemind.”

FASHION SENSE. The conversation veered toward their get-up.

Tutti remarked, “Pag nasa stage kami, siyempre, importante yung kumportable ka.”

And his primary consideration: a pair of comfortable shoes.

He explained that performing on stage for about 30 minutes can be quite taxing.

“Hindi naman katawan mo yung nagdadala sa ‘yo, yung paa mo. So siyempre, kung hindi kumportable sa suot mo, mahihirapan kang gumalaw, mahihirapan kang mag-perform.

“So importante sa ‘min ‘yong… it’s not really shoe requirements basta kumportable.”

Any preferred brand?

“Converse,” they chorused.

Tutti resumed, “Matagal na kami sumusuporta. Wala kaming angal dun, kumbaga, swak na swak kami. Kumbaga fits like a glove yung partnership namin.”

Herbert, the lead guitarist threw in, referring to the sneakers brand, “Never siyang naging uso, so, hindi siya nalalaos.”
