More than 30 candidates from all over the country are joining the Miss Silka 2013 beauty pageant.
On November 8, they were introduced to the entertainment press at the Stofells Function Room of Hotel Rembrandt in Tomas Morato, Quezon City.
Four years since it began, the Miss Silka pageant continues to stick to its advocacy of celebrating home-grown Filipina beauty.
The said beauty pageant has since expanded its search for aspiring beauties, including those from far-flung regions.
For this preliminary leg, more than 30 candidates will compete against each other to be one step closer at competing in the national pageant.
Miss Silka 2013 will take place at the Market! Market! Center in Taguig City this November 10, Sunday at 3:00 P.M.
The pageant will be hosted by Victor Basa, KC Montero, and Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry, with co-anchors Andrew Wolff and Miss World 2011 first runner-up Gwendoline Ruais.
Performances will be given by celebrity guests Erich Gonzales and international RnB singer Billy Crawford.
Compared to its contemporaries, Miss Silka has qualifying pageants at the regional and national levels—with candidates coming from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
It ultimately aims to give typical Filipinas equal chances to become a Silka ambassador.
Bea Dacanay, brand manager, explains that manufacturer Cosmetique Asia “wants to have someone na very relatable [to every Filipina]… na kahit man hindi gano’n katangkad na mga beauties.”
The competition is not just about beauty because Miss Silka also promotes social advocacies and charity causes.
“Cosmetique Asia will donate P100, 000 to (the winner’s) chosen charity,” explains Dacanay.
Last year, the company went to Palo, Leyte and donated P100,000 to Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 8, as chosen by the winning Miss Silka Philippines, to assist programs that benefits battered women and children.
