Derek Ramsay is looking forward to spending Christmas vacation with his loved ones. "The plan is for us to spend Christmas and New Year [in our rest house in Palawan]. But it doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen. I’m not sure if it will be done in time. But you know, there's always a plan in our family to go do something crazy."

Being single again is not exactly a bad thing for Derek Ramsay.

In fact, the 36-year-old actor enjoys it because now he has more time to spend with his family.

He has always been proud of his close-knit relationship with his parents, and in a recent interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), he stated his appreciation for the support they have provided him with through thick and thin.

“Right now, I have a lot of people around me who love me. My direct family, my friends... They're in my life right now.

“My dad's my best friend. My mom is my number one person to run to. I have my Tita Virgie, who's my second mom.

“There are so many close to me. I can go make a list. I value these people and I think I’m gonna concentrate on spending time with these people.”

LAIDBACK PARENTS. Derek couldn't be any happier seeing his parents lead a more laidback lifestyle now that they’re older.

Apparently, their family recently bought a property in Palawan, where they’re currently putting up a rest house.

“That’s the dream of my mom and my dad. My dad has been working hard.

“Can you believe it? My dad's 70, my mom's 70!

“They used to travel from Puerto Princesa to San Vicente by four hours in order for them to reach our property. Actually, it’s past San Vicente pa.

“One time, they went back, the katutubos built them a little bahay-kubo. And my dad said, ‘You know what, I’m gonna sleep here.’ My mom was like, ‘Really?’

“So, they sleep there while they're watching the house go up.”

The TV5 heartthrob further shares how his dad, who owns a successful electronics security company, has taken such a liking to the simple life in the province.

“I’ve never seen my dad this excited about something in such a long time. Nakakalimutan na nga niya iyong golf, which is iyong hobby niya.

“He's there now on the island as we speak. They’re sending me photos.

"My dad tells me, ‘Derek, I bought a carabao for 15,000 pesos!’”

PALAWAN REST HOUSE. While there’s no electricity in the hut where his parents are currently staying, Derek adds that they still chose to remain there to supervise the construction of their vacation house.

“One time, my dad got hospitalized dahil puro niknik siya. Na-infect, pinabayaan.

“Ginagawa pa iyong bahay. That’s what’s keeping him busy. He's enjoying it there. My dad wants to live there.”

Since his dad has been raving about their property in Palawan, they have actually made plans to spend the coming holiday break there.

Unfortunately, Derek says that the rest house won’t be finished in time for Christmas.

“The plan is for us to spend Christmas and New Year there. But it doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen. I’m not sure if it will be done in time.

“But you know, there's always a plan in our family to go do something crazy.

“This year, a lot of friends and family are coming home from all over the world. So it’s gonna be a happy Christmas for us.
