Last year, Filipina model Stephanie Retuya nearly won the first cycle of Asia’s Next Top Model—a franchise of the reality show hosted and produced by supermodel Tyra Banks in America.

The shy mom from San Pedro, Laguna, who was the sole representative of the country to the competition, took the runner-up spot next to 27-year-old Thai model Jessica Amornkuldilok, who won the grand prize.

This year, two Pinays are bound to show the world two ends of the Filipina beauty spectrum—20-year-old Jodilly Pendre, the morena, and 21-year-old Katarina Rodriguez, the mestiza.

JODILLY PENDRE, THE MORENA. An information systems graduate from the University of Sto. Tomas, Jodilly Pendre is one of the lucky girls vying for this year's title.

She was already starting a career in modeling when she joined an in-campus beauty pageant, the 2011 search for Ideal Thomasian Personalities.

She did not win the title, but, after the pageant, managed to land bigger modeling gigs, including a part in the Philippine Fashion Week.

The morena beauty has also been featured in the pages of top fashion magazines, including a fashion editorial for Preview Magazine's August 2013 issue.

Jodilly was also featured in the campaign for designer Rajo Laurel's Holiday 2012 Hanami shoe collection for major brand Parisian.

In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), the 20-year-old model said that she was lucky enough to have been picked.

"The audition was tough. Not an ordinary casting for models.

"Starworld held castings in different countries, but they also had the option to audition online.

"I couldn't attend the casting because I had prior commitments, so I sent all the requirements in, and thankfully got picked."

In her bio page on the Asia's Next Top Model website, Jodilly said that her strongest physical feature is her defined jaw line.

She also named Michael Cinco and Tyra Banks as her favorite fashion designer and model, respectively.

KATARINA RODRIGUEZ, THE MESTIZA. Katarina Rodriguez is the other Filipina chosen to compete in the biggest Asian franchise of the reality show.

This Filipino-American beauty decided to pursue a professional modeling career after being confirmed as one of the finalists of the competition.

"I started modeling professionally solely because of Asia's Next Top Model.

"Before I joined the competition, I did a few favors for classmates or friends, but nothing was professional.

"I prioritized school and track above all else, which kept me very busy."

Katarina is a member of the De La Salle University Women's Track and Field team.

Despite her lack of professional experience, she does have some stuff to beef up her resumé, including an online advertisement for a popular beauty product, and GMA Network’s Christmas Station ID for 2012.

Lastly, she's the godchild of Filipino designer and model Tweetie De Leon-Gonzalez, who serves as one of her inspirations in joining the competition.

Katarina is currently taking up Bachelor of Arts in Literature in De La Salle, and during the 76th Season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), she was chosen to be the school's muse.

In her bio page, Katarina said that her eyebrows are her strongest phyical feature.

She also named Cara Delavingne as her favorite model, and Calvin Klein as her favorite fashion designer.

In an interview with PEP via Facebook, Katarina said that she definitely feels the pressure on representing the Philippines, especially after Stephanie Retuya bagged the runner-up position last year.

Katarina said, "I do feel tons of pressure representing the Philippines on Asia's Next Top Model Cycle 2!

"For one, last year's representative, Stephanie Retuya set the bar really high, coming in runner-up, therefore I must either come in runner-up or win!

"Aside from that, Filipinas in all sorts of beauty pageants, as well as high-end modeling in general, have shown the world that our beauty is not just exotic but always at the top of the pack.

"If I don't meet the standards of what the audience will expect from me, then of course I will be disappointed in myself.

"The pressure is on most definitely."

ASIA'S NEXT TOP MODEL CYCLE 2. The show's second season will take place in Malaysia.

Jodilly and Katarina will go against 14 other aspiring models from other Asian countries:

Bona Kometa and Janice Green from Indonesia, Elektra Yu from Hong Kong, Jessie from China, Ji Hye from Korea, Sheena Liam and Josephine from Malaysia, Marie Nakagawa from Japan, Natalie Pickles from Taiwan, Nicole Lee and Poojaa Darshan from Singapore, Sneha Gosh from India, Nhu Thao Phan from Vietnam, and Tia Tavee from Thailand.

Australian supermodel Nadya Hutagalung will resume her role as host and judge of the show, while Filipina model Joey Mead-King will return as model-mentor and judge.

Photographer Mike Rosenthal and runway diva Adam Williams will be joining this year's panel of judges.

Asia's Next Top Model Cycle 2 winner will receive 100,000 Singaporean dollars cash prize, a campaign with hair styling brand Tresemmé, a brand new car from Subaru, a cover on Harper’s Bazaar Magazine.

The show will premiere on January 8, 2014 at 9:40 P.M. on Star World.
